The boot release solenoid looks to have given up the ghost in my Mondial. Anyone know where I can get a replacement at reasonable cost?

FYI = before I replaced my battery last week, the boot release would only work with the engine running - I presume because it is located as far from the battery as is possible, it just wasn't getting enough voltage otherwise.

Have you tried it with the engine running?

$10 says it's not the solenoid, as long as it is lubricated.

    OK - try this first:

Check fuses and relays if you haven't already.

Disconnect the battery. Get a can of a spray electrical contact cleaner. I use one from Radio Shack, but your name suggests you may be from the UK so try 'Telegraph House' or some electronics store :) Spray the cleaner into the switch. Now cycle the switch (battery is disconnected still) about 30 - 40 times rapidly. Allow to dry out for an hour or so depending on the weather. Ensure all of the wire connections are clean. Reconnect the battery. See if the box opens.

As crazy as it sounds, I've fixed my glove box switch, gas cap cover switch and certainly the antenna switch several times.

These contact switches seem to be very sensitive to surface corrosion, and even a light coat will prevent adequate contact.

    Good luck!
