I want to install an Optima battery and researched the Fchat archives fairly extensively. From that research, I thought the correct battery would be a 34R; however, looking at pictures of the 34R, I don't think the Mondial 3.2 has terminals reversed. Can anybody confirm that the 34 is the correct version for the Mondial 3.2? The link below is the battery I think I need to get:

I know that the 78/34 is also an option that is more flexible regarding terminal placement, but I'd rather get the exact fit (for this reason I also don't want the 75/35).

Also, what is the best way to remove the battery on the 3.2, I've read that it can be removed from the top or from the wheel well. I checked the owners manual and it doesn't cover this.

I just checked mine. Its the red 34/78. Makes it easier to reach the terminals also. I remember this was'nt my first choice when i put it in last year, but all that was in stock.
Only negative is its not as wide. So the clamp or stop on one side doesnt touch. With that said its seems very solidly in place.
Acess is thru the tirewell, so you must remove that wheel.

Good job for a rainy Sunday!

Thanks Dave -- I was inspired to get the Optima after seeing yours. Your advice is correct on all counts. Pulling the battery through the wheel well is the way to go. I put in the 34D, which is the yellow top (deep cycle) version of the 34 (Sears, $169). I was hoping the 34 was wider than the 34/78 to fill out the tray, but actually it isn't -- I think both have identical external dimensions. But as you say, it is rock solid once mounted. Probably the only difference is the terminal placement -- the 34/78 is more flexible than the 34. Regarding 34 versus 34R -- 34 is the better choice for the Mondial 3.2 (at least mine) even though it sounds like most Ferraris take the 34R.
