Need to do rear brakes. Have an ABS equipped 3.2. Are the calipers the same as non ABS? Saw posts about the 99 front Kia Sephia calipers being the same. Also 914-6. Rather buy new calipers than rebuild them…. Luckily have Brembo rotors bought eons ago just in case! Thanks in advance for any guidance Dave
You say that you'd rather buy new calipers than rebuild them. Why? (Even non-Ferrari) calipers are expensive, but the part responsible for the sticking is the rubber seal fitting into the groove of the piston. Assuming you don't drive your car in winter, the pistons are probably not severely corroded. So the economical way to do it would be to get a rebuild kit. I haven't researched this for our Ferrraris, but the design is the same for other cars. Pads and rotors, on the other hand, are wear items, so it's nice to have spares on hand. But probably not the issue here. Theoretically sticking calipers could be caused by aging soft brake lines, so you might have to replace those. But most likely the problem is an obstruction in the moving of the pistons in he calipers, and there the problem would be the seals, maybe the pistons, but not the calipers themselves. I hope that helps -- good luck!
ABS calipers are the same for ABS and non-ABS. Would have been made by ATE. Caliper rebuild kits are available from Eurospares, etc.
Thanks everyone. Superperformance only have pistons for the 8. The prices for rebuilt calipers for the Kia Sephia are the same for a rebuild kit. Will try that and see….
