Has anyone ever replaced a cam belt one tooth out? I recently replaced the cam belts and find that the engine under load at 2,500 rpm and above gives a metallic clatter. I am wondering if I have fitted one of the belts a tooth out. I would be interested to know if anyone has had a similar experience before I strip it to check.

Hate to state the obvious but did you check that it wasn't 1 tooth out.... Remove timing covers and re-verify, see my video if it helps.

Buy a stethoscope and locate the sound whilst standing still. Stop driving the car or possibly face a major catastrophic failure.
    Keep us posted.

I have had one cam, one tooth out of tune and had no metallic clatter because of it.
Major was done to my 3.2 cab prior to delivery by Ferrari "specialist" but i did not trust it.
The engine was much noisier than the 328. So after delivery i took it straight to my trusted specialist and timing was out. We replaced cambelts again and installed hill tensioner bearings and it was still noisy. I localised the noise with a (do not laugh) with a piece of fuel hose in one ear and the other end listening around the bearings.
If car has not been driven for a very long time you should check outer camdrive bearings.
Mine made a lot of noise at higher rpm. The engine sounded harsh.
After replacement all was smooth again.

1 tooth either way shouldn't make any mechanical noise. Did you replace your AC belt ? Those things make a lot of noise when they wear out.

Thanks to you all for your suggestions. I took the car to The Ferrari Centre in Maidstone Kent today. Roger test drove the car, removed the airbox and found one of the belt cover bolts was loose. Tightened it and all good in about 15 minutes!! No charge. Many thanks to The Ferrari Centre

If you have replaced the alternator drive belt you get a lot of static electricity from them which give a strong cracking sound, either spray a little WD40 and try or watch the belt in the dark, you'll see the static sparks.
