The engine cover on my '81 Mondial 8 sits high by about an inch in the front (firewall side) and it had moved far enough back that the paint on the trunk was scraped from rubbing on the engine cover if it was opened with the engine cover down. I'm just finishing a 30K and had both covers off. I can't see any hinge adjustment to move the engine cover down in the front. I slotted out the holes in the hinges to move the cover forward by about 1/4in and my clearance between the engine cover and trunk lid is still only about 1/8in. The trunk lid lines up with the rear fenders at the back edge, so I can't move it back further. I had the trunk lid repainted, so I'd like to make sure it doesn't get scraped again. It's OK as long as the engine cover is always opened first, but does anybody know what's up with the hinges? Have they become deformed from the pressure of the gas struts? Thanks, -Reid

Same slight interference between the 2 lids on my car. The hinges are not deformed, the lids sit at the correct height all round, but the engine lid is too far back despite being in the most forward position of the hinge slots. The gab between the rear window and the lid is bigger at the centerline than at the sides. I will elongate those slots when I get the engine lid off next time.

After I elongated the slots a bit it seems like the cover moved back to the previous position, even with the bolts very tight. I'm not sure how strong the struts should be, but the cover pops up to full travel very quickly. That could be the problem. If the bolts have slipped a bit in the hinges, I'll block the slots so the bolt can't move and try it again.
    Thanks for the information. -Reid
