I've had a problem for a while with dash lights flickering on and off with vibration, and jiggling the dimmer switch isolated the problem. I did a search on old posts to see how to get into the dash, and the problem was easy to fix. Here's a review:

Remove the plastic bezel on the tach by slippinmg a credit card between the glass and plastic trim. It's a light press-fit in with tabs at the corners and will pop right out (photo of back) Thanks to Edward Salla for info on how to get the plastic bezel off

Remove the knob for the dimmer by sliding a thin knife blade behind it and prying up carefully (might want to put masking tape on the dash for protection) The odometer reset knob doesn't have to come off

Remove the plastic retaining nut for the dimmer

Remove the 4 screws at the corners of the tach and swing it out and the right side instruments will now come out. Pull it a bit to the left and you might have to slip a small screwdriver carefully into the right corners to clear the leather if it has shrunk a bit. The right instrument cluster will rotate out and forward, pulling the wiring harness slowly and carefully with it.

The dimmer potentiometer is mounted to a circuit board that may be glued at the corners with silicone. It will slide out when you remove the silicone, and you can unplug the clock module and lamp for the odometer to pull the board all the way out.

In my case, the three solder joints for legs (last photo) of the potentiometer were totally loose, so I resoldered them along with a couple of other bad solder joints and reassembled everything in reverse order. It was an easy fix. -Reid

    Reid,
Thanks for the great post. I have to get into the instruments on mine to get some contact cleaner onto the button to release the trunk and this is just what I needed to see!

    Best,

Thanks Birdman - I just installed your carpet grabbers and they work great for non-driving projects like this as well. I finished the dash work without the carpet piled up behind my pedal cluster.
