I just bought an '81 Mondial and love it, BUT the v belt that drives the water pump and alternator fried itself during a rainstorm at Watkins Glen, and I have learned from FerrariChat members that this is to be expected. I definately want to permenantly fix this, as 1) it isn't nice to overheat aluminum engines, and 2) I don't like explaining to non-car people how a Ferrari could possibly have such a problem. There was a retrofit to install separate WP and alt belts from Ferrari in 1983, but it was only installed if a customer made the request. Does anyone know where I can get one of these kits - NOS, used, whatever - or have any other ideas?

I did it to mine, but I had to dig around to find the parts. The 3-belt crank pulley was the hardest part to locate, but T-Rutlands had the rest. No more screeching belts, no more shredded alternator belts, and lots of peace of mind. Good luck on your quest.

One comment... the Ferrari recommended belts turned out to be a bit short, which made them very difficult to get on. I would recommend getting slightly larger diameter loops so you can use the tensioners properly. If I break a belt, I'll have to remove the water pump pulley to get the spare belt on, and the same goes for the AC compressor. The alternator belt wasn't quite as tight, but it was close.

Thank you very much for the info. Do you happen to know if the 3 belt pulley from the quatrovavole will fit the 2 valve engine?

Yes, my 3-belt crank pulley came off of a later QV.
