Hi all, I'm considering buying a Mondial. My question is if there's a difference in layout for the backseat( especially Mondial 8 and QV)? Pref. with picture. Thanks Jurgen
A related question: The rear seats on my 89t cab folded down, somewhat at least, to provide a cargo surface. Do the seatbacks of prior cab models, ie 88 3.2 etc, fold down as well or are they fixed in "up" position? Thanks! Chris
Thanks Dominick...this '88 is on its way to me: http://i1.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/a0/47/1655_12.JPG http://i9.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/a0/47/1b28_12.JPG http://i19.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/a0/47/2ea9_12.JPG http://i5.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/a0/47/2bd2_12.JPG http://i19.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/a0/47/50d4_12.JPG 1988 Mondial 3.2 14k miles; I love Mondials!
Hmmm..what years are fixed/not fixed? I would presume if an 87 folds that an 88 would too?? Or, maybe a difference in US /non-US cars
As I understand it: Mondial t - all coupes and cabs have folding rear seats Qv/3.2 - all coupes fixed; all cabs fold M8 - all coupes, all fixed
Russ, I drove a mondial coupe afew times a friends I did not notice, do the coupes have the access to the rear bank?
Nope well not in my 3.2 88' its not needed you just need long double jointed arms to work on the front bank
Why would cabs fold down and coupes not(in Qv's and 3.2's)? Obviously not to gain access rearward so why not the coupes? I can't see a reason and certain it would be advantageous for all Mondials for storage so the leather in the rear is not scarred with storage. Anyone have a good reason? Jeff
My guess is that the Cabs are meant for top-down motoring most of the time so, in order to preserve the leather, Ferrari made the rear seats a fold-down design. Since the coupes aren't open to the elements, maybe Ferrari didn't consider a fold-down rear seat a need? Bob
Fold down in the rear of my Mondial T coupe (no engine access). And! There are beautiful leather luggage straps on the carpeted back of the seats. The seats fold flat enough to store lots & lots of luggage.
Cab 3.2 has seats that fold down with engine access. Until reading this post, I did not know that the straps were for securing luggage. Go F-Chat! - Ron
The rear screen of the cab is set further aft than the rear screen of the coupe (the engine cover of the cab is therefore much smaller than the one for the coupe) to allow space for the folding roof behind the rear seats. This resulted in the forward bank of cylinders becoming impossible to access from the engine side, hence the access hatch. The Mondial t cab has a longitudinal engine so the two cylinder banks are accessible(ish) from outside and doesn't need the same access. The folding rear seats on the cab are as a direct result of the need to access this hatch and a secondary function as a luggage platform. It was also convenient (for the luggage) that the cab seats are closer together with no real armrest between them thereby creating a reasonably flat continuous platform. The seats were closer together as a result of the room needed for the folded roof at the sides. The cab seats do not have headrests (and are generally "flatter") as they would be too high/long when folded and affect front seat position.
would REALLY have been nice if the rear access on the T was double wide, and a bit higher...way to small for some 'other' work....
problem with lots and lots [gone camping and put the coolers on the folded down seats] it that if you do not move the seat belts you get a horrible crease in the nice--typically--not used back seats. Had to put down some small pillows to keep it form creasing leather.
however, such an acces--behind the seats--do exist: why...not really sure it serves any great purpose.
I would guess for front of engine access as mentioned. Like sensors, rollers, belts. You never know when you may need that.
yes, as an inspection only, but no one can really see the belts with cover. I seem to recall, that taking off the cover from there was not a good idea. But do seem to remember taking off the alternator from there...
Chris my 86 Cab seats fold down and you can tie the luggage with the straps, too. No headrests, though. And it seems that the seatback angle on the "t" is more upright (to make room for the different block configuration?). Any "t" owners know for sure?
