Amongst a million other jobs I am now replacing all my engine hoses.

The hoses on the blow by system are quite perished, so will be doing those too.

    My question is.

Are they actually in contact with oil or are they there simply to let any air escape from the oil system.

I don't know whether to go for standard silicone hose or specific oil hose (Flourolined) which is a lot more expensive.

I am looking at all the hoses in the pic.

Also is there anything inside the black canister i.e. a gauze, or is it empty like a catch tank (number 1 in diagram).

    Thanks Pete

They don't get immersed in oil, but they are wet from oil. There is nothing in the cannister, just a vapor separator. Silicon hoses will be more than adquate.

I'm currently hunting down the same thing and no luck yet. The larger ones measure out at about 22mm ID which is about 7/8". I can find a few dealers that have black Samco silicone hose in that size but it is about $90 a meter for the oil compliant ones and 4-6 week special order (blue is the stocked color).

    See here:

You wouldn't think it would be so frickin' hard to find a damn piece of hose for a car.

As I said in another post...I used a 3/4" ID cloth braided on my 308 for the upper hoses [forget what I used on the lowers]. They are a "tad" snug when fitting but work out fine. Go to a local hose and hydraulics shop. They usually have them in stock.

Rather than looking for what you think is the best material, when you buy hose, tell the experienced parts counter person (they do exist) what the hose is used for...they should be familiar with their stock to help you.

I went to NAPA and asked for 7/8" ID oil compatible hose and they said "Good luck!" and told me to try a hydraulics place. After that, I let my computer do the walking. I haven't a clue about "hydraulics places" locally!

I just clicked on Birdman's signature link and saw some fish movie when I thought it said "Secrets of the Reefer"

    Seriously - great camera work!

3/4" works...note the braided hoses at the cross over piping and top of sepperator...going to the airbox.

Cotact Amazon hose in Orlando, FL. I can also get whatever you need from my local shop.

    Thanks!

Just ordered 6ft of the H213 Truck Hose shown on page 39 of this catalog from Amazon (about 6.50 per ft):
    http://hydraulics.eaton.com/products/pdfs/fc/W-HYOV-MC002-E1parts_36-49_hose.pdf

the guy I spoke with at Amazon was a big help.

The crankcase to airbox hose on the TR is NLA from Fcar.

The 7/8" dia (22mm) is apparently an 'oddball'.

Once this hose gets to me, I'll post a pic. hope it works out. this F-car hose business has been a royal PITA

    Rgds,
    Vince
