So.. last night I was removing my side "bumperettes" because they don't marry up to the rear bumper. Not even close - the rear bumper is placed about an inch too far back. The front is the same way.. My first thought was that at some point, someone smacked the rear of the car and wrecked the bumper, and they put on one or repaired this one.. but there are no signs of damage or body work anywhere, and the front is the same way too.. so I discounted that theory.

My next theory was that back in the early 80's, and I think it was from 81 to 82, (mine is an 82) they changed the bumper "crash ratings" from 5 MPH to 15MPH - it looks as though Ferrari pushed the bumpers "OUT" another inch or (actually nearly 2) in the front and rear, leaving the side bumpers the same (as they would have had to mold new, longer ones, which I doubt they would bother with for the U.S. market). It seems to me that some are like this, and others are not. Of course the later ones didn't suffer from this as they have a whole different front facia and rear valance.

At any rate, I'm re-fitting my front / rear bumpers so they fit properly - but I was wondering - IS anyone else's mondial like this? It's bizarre. And ugly!

    James,

If yours is a USA car,

    ,,

you got screwed with the rubber units. (rubber bumperends.)

    My euro car has fiberglass.
I will probably be changing them to carbon fiber, but not for a while.
