    Bought a new set of 348 wheels for my 1986 Mondial Cab-need to lower it-looks like a 4x4 !! I've talked to a couple of mechanics and they all say something different-cutting springs to new shocks....anyone have any experience lowering their Mondial? Carobu Engineering is offering shock rebuilding in Forza magazine...anybody tried it?? Let me know. Thanks.

    there are several threads with reference to this sort of thing, I know of a couple of mondials that have been lowered but i'm not sure how they went about it

    I've been looking at doing the same thing, currently have the engine cradle out so its easy to see how I would go about doing it. Unfortunately, there are no cheap answers if you want to do it right.
    I'm thinking about a 1" drop all around would look great, specially in the front. I'm currently running aftermarket rims and My tires are a bit wide so it looks odd at stock height.

    Ok so, I have the Koni shocks. The shocks are rebuildable so dissasembly is possible.
    the bottom of the coil spring is attached to the shock housing, not sure if its welded or if there's some sort of detent that holds the bottom coil spring plate. Seems to me that cutting the welds or detents and rewelding them a bit lower would do the trick although I'm not sure what distance on the shock would equal 1" drop. This way you would always have the opportunity to retain all OEM hardware and an opportunity to go back to stock at a low parts cost, but heavy labor cost unless you do it yourself.

    The prefered way would be to install adjustable coil overs, This is a fairly expensive option however, the benefits in handling, looks and ease of installation makes them appealing.

    The last option is the old school meathod however, having done this on other cars I would not recomend it because it most certainly affect your ride, that's to cut a piece of the spring off. If you do remember to never take more than a quarter turn off at a time and use a hacksaw and not a grinding wheel, you want to stay away from heat if thats the way you want to go...
    Lastly there is the old, old school way of just heating the springs but unless you know what you're doing, 9 out of 10 guys get this wrong and end up screwing up the springs all together. In addition, you're closing the spring resistance so it's a lot easier to compress the spring fully thus ruining any type of suspension travel, so I would never do that on my own cars.

    I am not aware of anyone making custom lowering springs but that would be the ideal way and fairly cheap, I just bought a full set of lowering springs for my BMW for $300, front and back. I wish I knew someone that would make some custom springs or a premade kit, so in absence the next best thing is the coil over option.

    But the very best way, in my opinion would be an air suspension system from ride tec, they have the bags and shocks built in and it would be awesome if I could raise it up at the flick of a switch say when going over speedbumps or steep driveways.

    If anyone out there has done this or similar please write something on here and if possible post before and after pics?

    I know its odd when someone revives a 10 YO thread, but after a lot of internet surfing I haven't been able to get any reliable info on lower the front of a Mondial.

    I just picked up an 85 cab and it has 18" 360 wheels and the rears are perfect but the front needs to come down 1" to 1-1/2"

    There is a ton of info on using QA1's on 308's with a little mod/adapter but much of the info suggests that the 308 procedure does not cross over to the Mondial.

    It appears that the konis have square ends on both the top and the bottom of the spring so some say never cut a square end of a spring, some also say if you cut it and feather the coil to seat properly you'll be fine.

    I have yet to pull one of the konis off the car and diagnose it for myself but I thought I might ask if someone has gone down this road before and has some insight or experience that could speed up the process. Thanks

    Caribou does (or used to do) an adjustable perch Koni for the Mondial. I've got them on my car.
