Does anyone know where I can find a schematic of the circuit board that is inside the "check-control" box, located in the center console? This is for a 1983 Mondial Cab. My problem is that the bulb that lights the bottom five items, only comes on when the brake pedal is pressed, illuminating the "Stop Lights" yellow indicator light!!!! (You just gotta love Italian cars!)

The check control computer can only check items that are under power.
All lights and a/c are only checked if "on" while switching the ign. key on.
So you must press your brake pedal if you want the stop lamps to be tested.
Your situation may therefore indicate that one of your stop light bulbs is not working.
Check your user manual. By the way, the official wiring diagram does not give any details about the internals of those black boxes in the car...

No, both brake lights work. First car I've ever seen where the brake lights only work when the ignition is "on"! I guess I'll contact Veglia, and beg for a schematic. Thanks anyway.

The light illuminating all the items per section only comes on when the car's lights are on, and if there is a fault, like in your case, the stop lights. (or a false fault...). With the car's lights off, only the item light up.
It is however correct that the stoplights only work with the ignition "on", according to the wiring diagram.

    Fred,

If I understand you correctly, the light you are referring to is one of the ones (there are two replaceable bulbs on the bottom of the box) that illuminate the text for the Check Control box when you turn on the running lights, right?

My situation is similar in that when I turn on the running lights, only the bottom 5 warning texts are illuminated. And many times when pressing the brake peddle, the yellow warning will light up even though the bulbs are ok. To add to my misery, the lights for the instrument panel do not work but think, due to earlier problems, they are all wired in the same circuit.

I have checked the fuse and it is ok. I have also checked the bulbs that light the Check Control box and they are good.

Funny thing is, the instrument lights were out when I bought the car, I replaced a blown fuse and all was fine until I replaced the fuse box (a GT Car Parts unit, as a preemptive measure). I cannot say for sure that the loss of instrument lights happened when I made the fuse box switch but suspect that with all the jostling of wires when I replaced the box that something went awry...

Long story short...I too am looking for wiring diagrams to help me trace back the source of power for the instrument lights ('86 Mondial cpe).

    Oh boy...let the fun begin..

Yes, we have the same kind of problem with the "Check Control" system. There is a schematic available for the dash lights. Try www.ferraridatabase.com. Good luck.

    On my car:
    - sometimes, fake "screen washer level" alerts (the level sensor works correctly, providing the ground for the alert) So the wire must ground somewhere between the sensor and the warning light... near impossible to trace.
    - sometimes, fake "external lights" alert on start up, disappearing rapidly in an on-off fashion and then stays off.
    - always, "external lights" on when "parking lights" on AND "ignition" on. Seems odd. Disappears clean on start up.

With the help of the wiring diagram, I was able to determine that the Check Control box backlighting bulbs are not controlled nor powered by the instrument light dimmer. While dinking around looking for the problem, I could see that both bulbs in the Check Control box are now working. Go figure....must be a marginal bulb that needs to be replaced.

Turns out my dimmer is toast and thus the instrument light failure. When I pulled the instrument cluster to check power in and out of the dimmer, I could see a transistor or diode on the dimmer circuit board that was pretty crispy and smelled ohh so wonderful.

It was one small victory....but have yet to look and see if the parts are still available...and at what price.
