I was perusing Craigslist and found an ad for a Mondial convertible. The listing included the following:

"1988 FERRARI MONDIAL ONE OF THE ONLY 4 SEATER FERRARIS MADE"

Now normally I just let the ignorant commentary in listings go...although I always make a note for a later "best lines on CL" story, but in this case I felt the need to contact the seller. After all, Ferrari buyers tend to do a little more research than the average 30-year-old Ford truck buyer.

So I sent him a little FYI that it probably hurts his ad and chances of selling his Ferrari to make the claim that the Mondial was one of the only four seater Ferraris made. I let him know that four seat (aka 2+2) Ferraris have been in nearly constant production since the 250 GTE model started in 1953. Off the top of my head, other four seaters include the 330 America, 500 Superfast, 365 GT, 365 GTC/4, 365/400/400i/412, 456GT, 612, FF, California...and one of the Ferraris I personally own, the 308 GT4 -- the predecessor to the Mondial8/Mondial 3.2/Mondial T. Mondials and Californias (including modern and 1966 365 California) are among the only 2+2 convertible Ferraris.

As a collector car journalist, I always tell my readers to never provide extra information in a for sale ad that isn't totally undeniably true, because it can only help to turn off a potential buyer.

I suppose that even in the F-car world there are plenty of knuckleheaded sellers.

are not roughly half the Ferraris produced 4 seaters?
Now if limit to rear mid engined 4 seaters then GT4 and Mondial are the 2 examples

So a Mondial walks in to a Bar, says "Can I get a drink" Bartender says "Sorry, we only serve real Ferrari" :D

I should have put in something like: The Mondial was a great enough car in its own right -- comfortable, sporty, fun, elegant... it doesn't need factually incorrect upselling.
