It seems the Mondial has a racing heritage. I recently picked up a Look Smart model of a Mondial 8 in racing livery for the 24 hours of Spa Francorchamps. The car is red with a white stripe around the body at the same level as the bumpers. Some of the markings on the car are "Autokrant", "Le Soir Le Soir" "Seca" (on the number plate - #73) and the principal sponsor is Moneytron. (A quick check on the internet shows Moneytron to have been a sponsor of the Onyx Formula 1 team.) A graphic that appears to be comprised of the letters D and L and the word "lou" is on the white stripe at each side corner of the car. Drivers names and flags on the door are Keke Rosberg, B Gachot and H. Huysman. The Ferrari shield is displayed on the upper rear of each front fender.

Any information on the car and the team that ran it, and any other competition history of the Mondial, would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    John

    John,
the Moneytron team was owned by JP Van Rossem, a infamous Belgian stock trader who had set up a system to beat the stock market. He had a great passion for Ferraris and even got his try into F1. He ended up in jail, after the system he'd set up was in fact a scam.
    Moneytron entered 2 Mondial 3.2: 79573 and 79509.
Better ask other guys in the Europe section for their share of info, these cars have already been discussed there, but can't seem to find the link.

    Roel and Jurgen,

Thank you for the information on the Moneytron 3.2's and for the suggestion to post on the European section.

My wife figured a way to get to the links where we printed the race results for the 1989 Spa Francorchamps 24 hour race to put with a collection of information we're gathering on the Mondial series. If we learn anything new we will be sure to pass it along to you.

We will be attending the Belgian Grand Prix later this year. Are either of you planning on attending?

    Thanks again for the information.

    Best regards,

    John
