"83 Mondial QVUS. How do you tell which connector is which behind the passengers foot board? I have the diagram but other than checking the color of the wires on each is there a way to tell which is C7 or C8 or C11? I have a 2.5 ohm short? in one from connector X on fues panel to C7. It draws 5 amps all the time so I pulled the fuse and am now trouble shooting.

    Thanks

I feel your pain. There are a lot of connectors in that area so not surprisingly it's confusing. Frankly, I think the only way to accurately trace each is to trace individuals wires/colors. Unfortunately, the ferrari factors did sometimes change the colors (when they ran out of one color?) such that the wiring diagram doesn't always match what you have in your car even if you have the exact same year diagram.

If you have a short, look for a connector with some browning or discoloration or other obvious sign of heat/distortion. And, of course, check the fuse box - I've found that the fuse box is a major source of electrical gremlins. If you have the blade type fuse box you're doing better than with the earlier cars with the bullet type fuse box but even the newer box can be problematic. Good luck and persist!

To make matters even more complicated, wiring diagrams are not accurate. They change from year to year and even car to car. Mine is a late production '85, but some of the wiring follows '84 protocol. That's what we get for buying limited production automobiles!

With careful inspection I found the culprit wire. There was a short somewhere between the fuse block and the C7 connector. C7 is one of the connectors on the main harness on the passengers side. Of course the wire was the middle pin of the 15 pin connector so it took some digging to see the color of all the wires. I replaced it and now all things on the #13 fuse work with no drain when the car is off.

I'm sure this is one of the reasons I got the car cheap as the battery would go down in 1-2 days and not start. Also it had ruined the battery, dead cell.

I've had the car since December and have been sorting everything out. One of the things I did was change the cam belts and bearings within 50-100 miles of getting it. I was very fortunate, one of the idler bearings was frozen and the other was rough. They were italian. I think they were the originals.

Not common Irish luck for me.

Thanks for the help and encouragement

    Dave
