I just purchased a 1990 Mondial T cab, and the top will not go down fully. The mechanism drops back smoothly, the knuckles seat in the "cups" and that's as far as it will go. It doesn't appear to be binding and the fabric is not in the way. Any thoughts on how to get it fully down would be much appreciated - Will

It has been a few years for me, but ...
The top can be finicky if you don't do it exactly right.
    A few things to check:
    1. Did you pull up on the hinged bar as you folded it?
    2. Did the sides of the top fabric get caught in the mechanism? You already indicated that nothing seems pinched, but this is easy to get wrong.
    3. As the top folds, try to help the fabric fold in nice even segments.

Hope this helps. If you have the owner's manual I remember it having a reasonable description of the key steps.

The hinges bind easily. When it binds, lift it back up an wiggle the back bow an then front bow from side to side to help them settle into position. Sorry, but it's really a trial and error task. Lots of force is not necessary.
