Thinking that the door speakers in my Mondial were bad, I asked Santa for some new ones. As I couldn't find any pictures of a Mondial door panel removal, I brought the camera out to share my tribulations. The notes and instructions that I did find on FerrariChat were invaluable.

The first thing I did was remove the fuse for the electric door locks (2nd from driver’s side on mine). I didn’t want to disconnect the battery, but also didn’t want to break the lock. The window was lowered for panel removal.

The Mondial door has 4 panels. One middle, one top and two for the bottom.

    1. Remove the one screw from the middle panel (Pic1) and slide the middle panel back (towards the jamb) until free. There are 2 tangs under that panel that lock into the door frame.

    2. Pic2 shows the middle panel off and the screws attaching the top and bottom panels.
There are 2 ‘hidden’ screws (yellow dots). One is in the carpeting on the lower panel and another attaches the top panel to the bottom panel.
There is a small phillips screw (green line) holding the trim ring to the door lock assembly that has to be removed.
The screws marked by purple dots hold the door lock assembly to the door frame. I found that they can be loosened (instead of removed) and the lower panel lifted up and away from the assembly.
There are 3 screws on the bottom of the lower panels, too, that screw up into the bottom of the door.

    3. Pic3 shows 2 more screws that are accessible once the top panel is removed.

    4. Pic4 has the forward lower panel removed. The mondial speaker (6 ½”) is mounted to the panel, not the frame. I disconnected the speaker wires and moved the panel to a protected surface (didn’t want to scratch the leather). On this side I had removed the door lock screws – although I found that I didn’t really have to (and didn’t for the other side).
This is ‘fun’, though – look what someone did to the speaker! They plastered dynamat completely around it…sealing it off and even pressing the adhesive side onto the speaker material. No wonder the speakers sounded dead. They were actually good quality after-market speakers (even better than what Santa brought). I used the new ones and have the old ones cleaned up and stored on the shelf.

    5. Pic5 is to show that you never know about a car until you take it apart. At one point, the window must have been broken. All of the glass was still in the door. I worked on it a long time with a vacuum to get all the pieces out.

While the door panels were off, I put in window accelerators that I had ordered from Ricambi. Installation was easy and they made a big difference in the window speed. The driver’s side is still a little slow and I’ll have to work on it more – I think the cable may be too tight.

I also leatheriqued the panels before putting them back on.

I can check a couple of items off my winter to-do list.
