I am about to pick and order an aftermarket exhaust for my 1987 3.2. After I removed the stock muffler in preparation for the new one and out of curiosity, I started the engine with no muffler in place. To my surprise it was loud but not obnoxious (most likely because of the cat) but you could also hear a cyclic mechanical noise over the rumble itself. I am wondering if anybody else has done a similar experiment like this and did you also hear this cyclic mechanical noise as well? I can post a video if there is any interest. The mechanical noise went away after a few minutes. I suspect it was from the valves as my engine had not been started for a few weeks and today was a very cold day. What was interesting was how noticeable it was with the muffler off. Here is the video: Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat

I dont know of any personally, but I recall there have been discussion threads on this previously. My interest in doing so is less for power, and more for cooler running engine and better sound. To that end, I've also thought about remiiving both cats and muffler and going straight pipes.
Here's what my car sounded like after I pulled the mufflers. Looks like previous owner removed the cats from the downpipes so this is the sound you'd get to compare to your video. My exhaust mufflers, downpipes, and headers are available for sale in case anyone wants them.
