Has anyone replaced the enterior on their Mondial and if so where did you go, what was the total cost and how did you like the outcome? I'm talking seats, all leather trim and carpets. Is this notion even a reasonable one ?

The reason i ask is ive narrowed my search but i dont like the interior color.

    TIA

Sure, GAHH has complete Ferrari kits that turn out really nice, IMO

    World Upholstery is another vendor..

    ReOriginals is another vendor.....

    It won't be inexpensive, however.....maybe $5K total?? I dunno....

thank you for that. How about seats? Is it best to re-leather or to purchase new?

i went over to GAHH's site and i see its all there and youre right not cheep but glad to know its available in one stop shopping. Is it a DIY or best to take to a upholstry shop?

i like the idea of having all new leather and carpet with a fresh clean smell.

Three good sites, now i wont be afraid to purchase the right Mondail mechanically and exterior speaking knowing that an interior swap of the color of my choice is not an issue and 5k isnt that bad for a new outcome.

    thanks again Tex

Completed the whole interior with the exception of the headliner on an 83 Euro Mondi. The liner will be done in the near future. Seats / Door panels are the easy part; all the little bits will eat up three extra hides (don’t short yourself, you will not find matching ones later). One of the more difficult pieces is the center console and dash, and the little bits that go along with them. Most trim shops will not have a skiver machine to thin out the leather necessary on the small interior pieces, which make it easier to stretch around the tight 90 deg pieces. All in, plan on 10k if you have a shop do it for you. Don’t forget you will most likely need to replace the foam in the seats, as its 20+ years old and broken down, reusing it at this stage is a waste of time because broken down foam will wear out the leather much faster than new. If you go this route, use high rubber content foam, instead of the polyurethane, it’s a better quality material. One last thing, you will likely need to re-weld some of the wire seat frames, and replace the jute /rubber strapping under the seats. Unless you’re in love with the car, and or plan to keep it for a couple of decades, a complete reupholstery job will not be worth it on the resale, just like every thing else we do to these cars. Nothing, I mean nothing smells better than Connolly in the morning.

I am in love with most Mondial I see, and i do plan to keep it for at least 10+ years, so
maybe i'll pursue this... you almost talked me out if it there and then you said this "Nothing, I mean nothing smells better than Connolly in the morning."

so now i definately want to.

I am doing a refresh of my front buckets now with the help of Mondial Guru Hank here on the site. I did the carpets myself some time ago through a local vendor and could not be happier. I will be replacing the headliner soon myself as I have a taste for Alcantara fabric and want to add that tasteful flare.

My console, dash, door panels and rear seats are all in original un-re-dyed excellent condition so I am going to leave them well enough alone - for the time being. At that point the car should be really a site to behold.

Of course its easy to luv a Mondial.

Some thoughts, the Mondial seats are maybe just ok if your short. My headrest fully extended reaches below my head. No side support. For the money consider Sparco Milano's are maybe even 348/55/60 seats. For the black top of the dash perhaps Alcantara to reduce glare.

I got a quote of $10k for a complete interior (carpets + leather) for my 88 3.2 Cabriolet. That includes installation and seat repair, using the GAAH or World Upholstery kits.

DIYing the install depends on your level of expertise. I'd consider DIYing the carpets, doors and maybe the dash, but I'd leave the seats to the experts. As someone already posted, the seats will need extra TLC besides just reskinning them...

I made a very minor deviation from stock on my reupholstery job. I didn’t like the glare of the original vinyl dash, and so in keeping with Ferrari styling, I used Charcoal Alcatera on the dash top & pod, door panel tops, and around the waist rail. It is a dramatic improved reduction in glare, and updates the look, plus it’s nice to touch. A highly recommended modification, if your not planning to Concorso your Mondi.

Getting the damn dash out is the most difficult part (especially if you have big hands), taking it apart is second. Don’t be surprised if some of the plastic comes out in chunks, when you remove the old staples, you will need to repair it prior to new leather. The 1/8” underlayment foam will also need to be replaced, I used black GM headliner material, it makes for a smoother install with the fabric covering. The dash is not a DIY job, not only is it a big piece, but one small cut for the vent holes that’s wrong and it will set you back another ¼ Hyde (roughly $200.00). The dash uses a combination of glue, and staples, to secure the leather. In many of these spots, it requires a special angled staple gun. Ferrari also used a technique to cut the overage leather at a 60 deg angle, and then glue this section down to hide the joint, this is difficult for a professional nearly impossible to make look good for a novice. Unless your buying pre punched original door panels, you will need to figure out how to duplicate the speaker hole pattern, unless you don’t care, and stick a speaker grill over the leather.

I recently purchased a 328 GTS which had the interior redone prior to my purchase. It was done at a shop using oem leather and carpets. The total cost on the invoice was in excess of 10k but in my opinion worth every penny. My car is mechaically sound with service history and to have a "new" interior it's virtually like having a new 23 year old car! Plus I agree with JH355....there is nothing like the smell of connolly leather....any time! If you plan on keeping the car go for it!

To do it right, from scratch with new hides, new carpet, new door panels, new console, etc., cost me $11K on the 328. I imagine a Mondial will be more expensive.

I'd agree with the ~ $10K estimates after redoing my entire 308 interior.

maybe just slightly more with the rear seats.
