Mondial Part Search... or ideas?

Step-dad's "new" Mondial is still over at Norwoods getting a bunch of deferred maintenance taken care of as well as a complete interior restoration. We have run into one snag though - a little plastic part.

In the center console between the two seats, there is a black plastic cover approx 4x6" where the switches are. This part has warped some and is cracked. It'd be a shame not to replace it when the rest of the interior is going to be virtually brand new. Norwood's parts supplier indicated it is roughly $350 but unknown availablility.

I've seen a few cars plagued with the same plastic part failing so was wondering if anybody has thought up any alternative or even a source for this part. If it comes down to it, I'll pay the ungodly amt for this piece of plastic but I'm really hoping that maybe somebody has fabricated a piece for this before.

ps - we have a very large family and nearly everybody knows about the car but dad. we have decided to throw him a surprise bday party with the Mondial being the big surprise presented at the party

 

well it's going to take another couple of weeks to complete the interior restoration and then I'm going to turn it over to DetailWerkz for a week or so to get this puppy looking perfect. So we're still about a month out.....and my folks live in Houston

but good idea though!
