hi guys as you proberly guessed i have bought one a driven it back from chepstow 200mls, run ok but only getting up to 5500 rpm then power goes , but pulls ok up to then, and no smoke, checked the plug leads today (ok) and unpluged the coils one at a time, it stopped running when i disconected either of them, sounds very missfirery in the morning, any help is appreciated as i have just sold my cobra,(usually go on on the cobra website) but now it will be here, also tring to put things right inside, done all the central locking and the locks, doors are now all adjusted, and bonnet etc, trying to get all the dash lights and panel lights to work , started stripping the centre console out to sort that lot out, any advice would be good thanks

Martin great to have you, Fill out your profile with a bit more info on the car. Oh and you'll have to post pics soon :)

welcome to the small but energetic Mondi crowd here.

Heavy steering, huh. well it's a 3500lb car with no power steering so it'll be heavier than your used to with a lightweight like the cobra. could be to wide a tyre, what size is she running?

did you get a PPI? when was the last service? mileage? still running stock distributors?

i'll get you the link to the thread for the mondi registry so you can fill in there too.

    :)

A PPI is a Private Party Inspection. someone not financially interested in the sale of the car will do an inspection for you on the car. it'll hopefully turn up any issues and problems with the car before you buy. it also give you a decent list of issues and what needs to be fixed as well.

If your decent with a spanner than you should have no real trouble sorting any problems you have. there are alot of us here who have done LOTS of work and mods to our beloved Italian mistress's ;)

Do you have a copy of what was done at the 58k service?

Might sound silly but is there a bit of carpet stuck behind the accelorator pedal thats hindering it getting all the way down?.

I am in the uk and have done loads of work on my 83Qv, any advice or help just give me a shout.

Welcome to the board. It is quite the norm for there to be some sorting issues upon purchase on many Ferraris.
Interestingly, your car should run on one bank of cylinders --try starting it with only one of each coil wire disconnected, leaving it running only a short bit. I do not have a feel for what it is doing, but things like this make me instinctively say "ignition" as I despise Marelli.
While it is hard to diagnose with an ocean between us, let's run through a litany of 'the usual suspects':
    1. Look at your plug extenders on the inside and outside for eveidence of a burn through
    2. Check you high tension cables - if they are the original set it may ne time for new ones
3.Check your caps and rotors visually
4.ensure the coil wires are good and well seated.
    5. A bad coil may be giving you this trouble - might look at getting a new replacement and putting in one side at a time to see if the problem clears.
6.Would ensure that the fuel filter is recent , and check the condition of the fuel hoses
    7. Running some injector cleaner through the tank wouldn't hurt
    8. New air filter
    9. Ensure that the throttle plate is going to full open when someone presses on the pedal - what you describe sounds like it is running out of air, fuel or ignition advance. May want to put a timing light on both sides.
    10. Check condition of exhaust to ensure it has not become clogged.
    11. May be the fuel pump is about to go
Hope this helps to get started. Let us know what you find!

    Best

    Russ

Oh, and as to the steering - while they are all a bit heavy at slow speed, however how much is determined by what kind of tire. If you are running the original TRX, then yes, they are very heavy. If you have upgraded wheels to 16" and running a newer technology tire in a smaller section (205 or 215) then you will notice a dramatic improvement.

Just one opinion, but I now believe the most perfect tire combo for the Mondial is probably Michelin PS-2 front 205/55-17 and rear 235/50 or 245/45 - 17; This is what I will be going to next. I am now running Michelin PS A/S 225/50-17 and 245/45-17 which are terrific as well.

No, Ferrari only put it on for less able pilots!!!!!!

Hi Martin, welcome to the club! I too have done heaps on my car over the years and on here you can probably solve every type of problem! Heavy steering is the norm with TRXs, get rid of them IMO and run later 16 or 17 inch rubber, I've changed to 16 inch and the difference is huge.

    Good luck!

hi guys thanks for the feedback, i have changed the air cleaner, check all pipe work, the warm up pipe from the throttle body to the warm up valve was missing, done that, got new plugs to go in, also notice today when i took it to work to check the speed to speed that is getting wore, only revs now when pulling to 400rpm, i put it on the rollers to check the speed, because the lst owner fitted ferrari 348 wheels (17") 215 front and 225 rear, speedo is about 5mls slower, live with that, just going through the whole car at the moment, locks doors imobilizer done etc, just soldering and sorting inside stuff out at the moment, iam not worried about the engine at the moment theres no smoke ,even when cold, i did do a manual oil pressure check to day at work and its running at 2500 revs, hot its 60psi ,whats the norm for these v8s, by the way thats so much guys for any help ,i want to add a advatar how do i do that thanks

So you don't think my front tyre size 215/45ZR-18 and rear 275/40ZR-18 (Pirelli P Zero) and 5 inch wider rear track will work?
