I've been trying to diagnose this 1984 Euro Mondial Quattrovalve. I bought it knowing it has something wrong because it felt like it was about half down on power.

So I started with ignition stuff:

    car running:
unplug rear coil - runs worse
unplug front coil - runs worse

About this time the car refused to start again. I checked ignition over and over and then decided to check the fuel pump. It was getting .7 volts. I swapped relays with the horn and the started right up.

unplug front bank ignition pickup - runs worse
unplug rear band ignition pickup - runs worse

unplug bottom digiplex vacuum line - rpm goes up
unplug top digiplex vacuum line - rpm changes some, but not as much..but car wasn't fully warmed up either.

Check rear bank with timing light and I can see a significant amount of timing advance. I didn't check the front bank...

So I got the car on the dyno yesterday. First couple pulls looked like this:

You can see the air/fuel ratios are incredibly lean. I kept doing more and more pulls because it actually started to richen itself up as I made more and more pulls. I started thinking maybe the car has just sat for a long time and the fuel distributor is a little gummed up.

I put in some 110 octane race gas because its really clean and doesn't have the gummy crap that pump gas has in it.

Eventually I got to about 115 whp. Obviously still a problem.

I pulled the air filter box off and had a friend make dyno pulls while I manually moved the air flow meter door. I manually forced the air fuel ratios to be about where I wanted them and got this result:

Why is the car so lean?

I tried adjusting the main mixture screw on the fuel distributor and the car immediately died. It's about as rich as it can stand to be at idle.

So what should I do next?

My to do list so far is:

    1. mark flywheel better so I can actually see the timing marks (this is much worse than working on a 308 btw)

    2. check front bank for ignition advance

    3. check fuel pressure at fuel distributor

    Thanks,

    Aaron
