    I equipped my Mondial QV with Superformance 16" rims and Toyo Proxes T1-R tyres to
    replace the aging, slippery and noisy TRXs.

    I chose the 205/55 front and 225/55 rear setup like Mondial 3.2 had, including the corresponding camber/caster/toe settings and tire pressures.

    The standing laden radius of the TRX setup is equal to the 225/55, so the gearing and speedo work correctly.

    The new tires are super-quiet and the ride very smooth compared to the TRXs, and the handling with the new setup is nicer, with faster steering response, more precise tracking and finer control under load, plus much higher limits.

    Steering efforts are down and at the same time there is more feedback.

    Wet performance is very good too, hydroplaning limit in heavy Hong Kong downpour was higher than the wiper speed permitted me to drive...

    Wheel (rim & tire) weight information:

    240/55R390 - 20.5kg = original setup

    225/55R16 - 21.0kg = rear +0.5kg
    205/55R16 - 19.7kg = front -0.8kg

    The bare Superformance Mondial 16" replica rim weighs 9.8kg

    Thanks for posting that....good input for those of us looking to replace wheels and tires! Personally I am going with 348 wheels (I like the look) and will report on the results once installed and new tires put on. Cheers

    You are welcome. Additional info: The offset of the original Mondial Cromadora metric wheels is 51mm, and so is it on the Superformance Mondial replicas. So no change to the steering geometry. You might want to verify that for the 348 setup?

    Thanks Urs - very nice. Great information. Wheels look nicely stock and undoubtedly you're enjoying the better handling and quieter running condition. Looks like a super nice upgrade for older mondials with the TRXs!

    Very light Jason! What are the wheel's dimensions?
    I do not have a bare Mondial OEM wheel, so I don't know its weight.
    Anyone knows?

    Cliff, I wanted to keep the stock look, not because I particularly like the wheel, but it does suit the design of the QV very well. And I think it is a quite good looking 80s wheel, especially with TRXs - very "period" :)

    Are you sure the rears arn't 225/50/16's?

    Ok fair enough.

    I just thought it would have run the same as the 328's and not often do you see a set up where the rolling diameter of the wheels are different front to rear.

    The original Mondial set-up is identical both front and rear.
    The revised set-up has smaller and narrower front wheels, but negative camber instead of 0°. The steering gets sharper and a little lighter at parking speed.
