My 84 Mondial QV cabriolet came with Michelin TXR 240/50/16 tires, and when I purchased it, it had Pirelli P7000 205/55/16. Thinking about new tires, I would like to go to 225/50/16. Any recommendations as to size, manufacturer and model?

Are you using different rims to the original TRX rims ?

7.00 JX 16 in the front with 205/55/16 tires, and 8.00 JX 16 in the rear with 225/50/16. Would not have chosen different sizes front and rear, but that is the way I purchased it.

I am not up on the 84 QV mondial but i do know the 87 3.2.
The 87 3.2 mondial had TRX tyres , wider rears at 240 /55/vr 390 section and a narrower front at 220 or 225 if i remember correctly.

Looking on the eurospares web site for an 84 qv, they show all tyres as TRX 240 size ? Plus the spare. This may be a mistake on the eurospares site.
Might be an idea to look in your hand book

Also have a look at superperformance uk for wheels, styles etc They list the wheel sets as the same for the QV and the 3.2- ie 2 different widths 1 of the sites is wrong for sure..

Certainly on the 308/328 those are the standard tire sizes for those wheels - for tire recommendations try a search on tires in that section as well as this - its the sort of thing that gets asked every couple of months - a friend just put Toyo T1R on his 308

Bill, I have a set of original 390 wheels from my old 84 if you want to go back to stock.

    This thread might help:

FYI, the photo sizes changed upon this site's updates. So references to "left and right" are now "top and bottom".

Only thing to add is if your like most of us here, the new tires will age out before the tread wears out.
That said get the highest performance that you can afford, tread wear be damned.

I had to scrap my mondial front tyres as lots of thread but so old the front never went in the same direction as the steering wheel, makes for hairy driving

I would recommend Dunlop TD SP 2000 230/55 ZR 390!
These are an excellent tyre that I have fitted all round on Kato the 3.0 QV. I think they have better dry grip than the TRX tyres that we have on the 3.2QV.
Wet grip is excellent under power and breaking, clearing standing water is also very good.
Wet power slides on a good non greasy surface are as progressive as any other tyre I've fitted to the car and are better than the TRX.
In the dry the grip is just perfect for the power of the car. Full power can be applied in 2nd when exiting a slowish corner with the steering angle at 90 degrees and break away is so lazy and slow that even your granny can counter steer in good time. For the more spirited driver 3rd gear power slides are also nice and smooth, always with that classic Ferrari turn in understeer that can be countered with power to give either neutral-tighter line or oversteer if required.
I'm a big fan of the price too, look them up and you'll see.....
    All the best, Bell Bloke.

Thanks, Steve, but I think I'll stick with the wheels and tire sizes I have.......even if you decide you want to talk about the car. Taking it 11/5 to the car show in Sulphur Springs.
