The interior rear view mirror in my Mondial is loose at the ball joint which allows for the mirror adjustment. Vibrates and wobbles at times, making the visual a bit fuzzy. Not a big deal, but annoying, is there some way to "tighten" up the ball joint, or otherwise increase the resistance (some sort of sticky grease or something)? A whole new mirror and mount assembly seems wasteful...anyone have some ideas?

I had the same problem with my Mondial. There is a way to tighten it up. You need the right sized allen wrench. Good luck.

Another project for me. My mirror has been a bit wobbly. My brother showed me that if I took the mirror portion and pushed it forward it would stay for a while and that has worked well for a year and a half. Well, driving the other day it went wobbly again and wouldn't stay for more than a minute or two. Then today when heading to go shopping I pushed it forward and the entire mirror came away from the windshield in my hand. Time to do something about it. After my shopping I looked at it and it wasn't actually loose at the ball, it was loose between the ball socket metal and the arm. The ball socket into the mirror itself was quite tight. I pulled on the loose portion and the arm popped off. To get the ball out of the mirror I'd read in another thread that someone had hyperextended the ball in socket and it popped out. I pushed the arm back onto the end of the ball metal rod and pried it at and angle and it popped out.

I realized the problem I had with my mirror is that the screw that goes into the end of the ball had loosened up against the arm that goes to the windshield mount. Techically, if I had known this there is a chance I could have simply pried the mirror off at the ball and tightened the screw and put it back together. However I cannot recommend this as it took a lot of force for me to push the ball back into the mirror.

I used blue threadlocker on the threads. I figured if it came loose once it could do it again. At the bottom of the socket where the ball was located there was this piece of plastic thing. Maybe a shim someone added, maybe factory to help it move, don't know. But for those of you who's ball socket has gotten too loose this is an idea that might help. Some thin plastic set at the bottom of the socket might bring things back into tightness for you. I then laid the mirror flat on a desktop and forced the ball back into place. And look! Is that a part number? I wasn't able to get anything from an internet search. Mike? :D

I purchased a rear view mirror adhesive kit and it kept referring to "the mounting button" so I gave it some thought and saw a screw that holds the arm to what I called the foot and apparently the industry calls the button. It's a flat blade screw so I figured it would be easier to mount a button than a whole mirror, also easier to hold in place.

I took a razor blade and cleaned "the button". Next I need to clean the windshield. Before I do that I will mark the location of the mirror foot with tape on the outside of the windshield.

I followed the instructions on the glue. Apply primer, wait five minutes, apply glue and press to windshield. Hold one minute then let cure for 15. I'm still in the middle of the 15 minutes and will take my dog for a walk. This picture in addition to my reflection shows the foot stuck to the windshield. You can see the tape I put on the outside of the windshield for a guide.
