I've been looking at a t coupe that has some rust under the hood (front and rear) weatherstripping. After going through the parts manual on Ricambi's website it doesn't look like it'll be a major repair.

    Has anyone experienced this yet?

    Pics Here

    Thanks

Haven't seen it that bad here in CA, but one caution is that there is actually significant missing metal (or will be, once you grind it down to clean). Might require something welded on there.

My other concern is that this won't be the only rust on the car. You can almost bet on it.

I hope this one's priced very cheap.

Thanks for the input but like you've both mentioned there may be more rust inside (PPI only found what's shown).

    $1500 sounds a lot better than 4 or 5K.

Parts-wise, at most, item 31 might need a replacement.

I have not seem that much before, but looks easily fixable. The much bigger concern, what the hell storage conditions did the car receive to get that way? Most likely it was parked outside a lot. I would inspect the entire car for other hidden rust.

Use sandpaper or steel wool and remove as much loose rust scale as possible, then squirt or rub Rust-mort or Navel Jelly on all the rust area to pickle it. If you do not remove and pickle ALL the rust, it will simply come up again through your paint at a later date. Use a good primer and seal the area then top coat it with semi-gloss trim black. It would be much easier to work on the hood removed from the car.

Craven's on the right track, however, POR15's system will take care of the rust & prevent it's recurrance.

A quick search of Tech Q&A for POR15 will bring up several links & a couple of 'how2' posts.
