Newbie owner, left a trail of coolant and a puddle as I pulled into a gas station after having the car tuned and they topped off the antifreeze. Upon inspection there's a tube exiting the coolant reservoir which had been dumping a steady stream of coolant. I had never seen a overflow setup like that before, but shop said not to worry, they had just topped it off. So, next time I drove it same thing happened as I re-entered my driveway. And the next time I started her up the "add coolant" light went on, so I turned it back off.

    What's up? Normal behavior?

Perhaps normal as the levels settle, but also can be due to air in the system at the refill. To "burp" the system, there is an air release bolt on top of the thermostat housing and radiator.
    Good luck

Cold, the max fill level is around 6cm from the filler next, on most of the 308.328,Mondial series. I would be tempted to leave it alone...and see if it finds it's own equilibrium. You might also check it cold.

If your expansion tank "pressure cap" is old and loosing tension, that can cause excess "spewing" of coolant too.

My previous 308QV had this problem once and a new cap cured it.

All advice good, but also make sure your fans are working. If the car is not cooling itself down, you will blow out at the expansion tank.

    1. Burp the system
    2. Check the level
    3. Make sure the fans are coming on when it gets hot. If they don't, it will spew coolant. This is important that they come on.

Excellent reminder! Old caps were .9 bar, new are now 1.1 bar.

I installed a "surge" tank in addition to the factory "header"
tank on my '78. There is a difference and the function is different between the two.

By adding the surge tank I converted my cooling system from an open system to a closed system. I rarely see spillage except the first time I shut it off after topping off and I rarely have to bleed air from the system.

I had the same problem and did all the things mentioned except the expansion tank and never had the problem again.
