My Mondial with 308FI starts right up but runs rough and rich until it warms up. When you give it gas, it's feels like there is a blockage, as if it's being held back. Then all of a sudden, it will clear up and run perfectly. I'm getting spark to the plugs, the fuel pump and accumulator are new. The fuel filter is 2 years old, with 6000 miles on it. The cold start valve, auxiliary air valve, fast idle valve and thermotime switch are operating fine. I opened up the warm up regulator and the bimettalic strip is heating up. Any ideas? Patrick

are you sure the throttle cable is working fine? also run some techron (fi cleaner) through the gas. Could be blockage in Fuel filter but that probably would not clear up as easily as you state

Definitely sounds like you have an issue during the warm up phase. You really need to take it where they can check all your FI pressures, to see if it is working correctly during the warm up phase.

It sounds like you may have a bad warm-up regulator, but again, I'm not sure you can check this yourself.

Agree with the honorable gentleman from Seattle - sounds very much like the warm-up regulator pressure control valve.

Just to be sure would also check the hoses proximal to the Aux air valve for a vacuum leak.
    Good luck!!

With Russ's agreement, then I suppose if you don't want to spend a bunch of money on diagnostics, you could take a stab at it and just replace the warm-up regulator and cross your fingers that this fixes your problem. Probably a $200 to $300 part if you can get the Bosch part number and order it on-line from an import parts house, rather than an FNA dealer. If it doesn't fix it, then I HIGHLY recommend you find a good Bosch FI repair center....

Could be a number of things, most have been mentioned, but here's my list :-

Check all vacuum lines for leakage, especially the one to the warm up regulator.
The auxillary air devise isn't opening fully.
    Cold start valve leaking.
Injection valves leaking (opening pressure too low)
    Basic idle adjustment incorrect.
But the favourite is the "cold" control pressure is outside the tolerance.

Only way to be sure is to put a pressure guage on and see what is happening. If you do this and need more data I will post for you.

According to my Bosch Parts list the part # for a warm-up regulator is
    0 438 140 083. It looks like this is a common part # for all 308 engines from 1980-1987.
    Hope this helps.
