    Hello,I own a 1989 Mondial T.
I have two problems and I was wondering if you could help me.

1.My Battery symbol came on and stays on when the car is running, I turned all of the electrical components on and the car starts and charges without any problems.Any advice?

2.One of my Speedo lights is out, how does the instrument pod come out so I can replace it?

    Thanks for your time.Sal

I'm sure the tech brothers will join this thread soon to help try to solve your problems. While waiting, why don't you fill out your profile and introduce yourself - kinda like walking into a nice party comprised of folks who like the same things that you do-------------like me and my Rachel (the Mondial t). Also, post some pictures in the Mondial thread in "Showroom". It's called "Let's See All Our Mondials".

    Cheers, Hank

I'm not one of the "tech brothers", but the obvious (and cheap) place to start is to test the battery and inspect/clean the connections there.

I would suggest you get the car on a lift and inspect to see what alternator you have on the car. Original equipment was a 105 amp Delco which is NLA. The updates were 90 amp Nippondenso-->105 amp ND--->140 amp ND which were complete kits with brackets and wiring harnesses etc. Check for Service Bulletin #644 IIRC.
Also, no matter what, install an additional ground strap from alternator directly to chassis.

My guess is that he has a Delco unit in his car. I would start by checking all the cables going to the battery and all the grounds. If those check out then the regulator could be going bad. Easy to remove and rebuild, run a search of the archives to get the how to.

I can't remember if the pod for the Mondial's attaches the same as for the 348 but, there are only 2 screws holding the pod in place on the 348/355's. They are located on the bottom corners of the pod. Remove those and then lift it straight up. Nothing else holding it down. At least for the 348/355's anyway. It could be the same for your Mondial?

Gosh, maybe an experienced knowledgeable professional like Rifledriver can help with this.

Oh, that’s right – ernie drove him away.

Still hoping to escape your very public humiliation ernie? Perhaps you won’t….

Listen, you REALLY need to give it up. This has been long done with. Get over it and move on.

Why not start with the very inexpensive (ie free) basics....

Measure the voltage at the battery when the car is running. 13.8 is good. Add a few accessories like headlights and A/C and see what it is now. If it goes below 13.8, then increase rpm to about 2K. If it returns to 13.8, then all is good. If it drops below 13.8 at idle with no accessories on, then there are problems. Now it's time to spend some more time and perhaps money. But please - check the basics first. At least you won't get stranded, and while the light may be annoying, it's nice to know if it really is a problem or not.
