I got the engine back into my Mondial T after doing the major on it and the clutch is not working (engine stopped or running). Runs great and everything else appears to be working fine). The pedal has no pressure on it. I filled the brake fuild reservior and bled the clutch. It has fluid pressure on the bleeder valve when the pedal is depressed. I has disconnected the clutch hydralic line at the "t" on the firewall. Why would the clutch not be working?

It was working fine when I pulled the engine out about a year ago. There are no fluid leaks but little to no pressure on the pedal.

    ideas?
    1. stuck clutch - how to free it?
    2. still air in the slave (I bled out about 1/4 cup of fluid with the pedal being held down).
    3. master or slave dried out or stuck?

How to debug this without tearing everything apart again?

    Thanks in advance...

How did you bleed the clutch, by pumping the pedal or pressure bleeder. It sounds like either the piston in the master is stuck, or there is still air in the system.
If the master pumps fluid out the bleeder, then the piston is not stuck, you just have air in the system. If you can bleed all the air out of the system and the pedal is still soft, then I would have to say that the seals in the master are bad. Do you have any brake fluid leakage out of the bellhousing area, if not then the slave cylinder should be fine.

It might help to have a pressure bleeder on the system while you are pumping it to try and get all the air out.

You have to bleed the clutch master at the front of the car.

You need 2 people. Start by pumping the clutch pedal at least 10 times. Now hold the pedal down. crack open the line at the master and allow it to bleed out. Tighten down and repeat. You will be able to tell once all the air is once you get a nice solid steam of fluid.

Now in the engine compatment where you diconnected the line on the frame on the left side, bleed it there as well. Once thats done, now bleed at the slave cylinder at the rear.

Basicly you have tons of air in there and you need to get it all out. You may have to do this a few times even after you drive it around.

I followed the directions on www.348club.com by using a hose. We had to pump it for about 10 minutes with the valve open and finally a big surge of air and all of this frothy fluid came out then it went clear. Works great now. Went for a drive and found another problem for a new thread.
