I tried to search for information on this, but was unable to find anything useful. I was hoping people here would have some more information. I am likely about to purchase a '91 mondial t and just had it inspected by independed mechanic familiar with ferrari's. Three problems came up and hoping to get advice.

1). convertible top has small wear crease to a small tear on pictures. I spoke to the inspector who said it is in the back left and wouldn't leak because it covered below.

2). the windshield washer wouldn't pump.

3). there is a leak in the air conditioner compressor - mechanic who worked on car states needs filling once a year and isn't worth changing compressor.

The inspector is a mechanic, states he has and still owns some ferrari's. He usually fixes them and sells them. He states the car drives extremely well. Is clearly well care for except the above mentioned items. I am curious whether it is difficult and expensive to replace the roof. Is it worth it if it doesn't leak? How much should a mondial t with 16,500 mile and had the 15k, and 30k servicing 1 year ago go for with a roof as described above? Is the windshield washer pump a significant part to change myself if needed?
    How about the compressor leak?

I know I am asking a lot of questions, but I am excited about getting a Mondial and this seems very good except the above mentioned items. I don't know if I should try and get some money off with these things or accept our agreed upon price of 44K. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Bruce (longing for Mondial)

I think my mondial t cab is the perfect car....first thisgs first...be sure the two little rear windows go up/down..these motors are very expensive....thes fuel door and all the hatch electric selanoids are very expensive too for some reason...the auto adjusting shocks and teh related system is very pricey...the auto climate controll computer costs more than the car I think...
the tranny drive shaft to the clutch can be loose and needs a new tranny to repair...the convertable top can be had from Ted Rutlands and a guy in TX that advertised i Hemmings all the time...I forgot tehname of his company....it is not expensive BUT your rear plastic window may NOT have the little horsey stamped in it...this is a VERY BIG DEAL to f-car people and no horsey and your car losses big time value so the price of a chep top make sure you learn if there is a horsey...yes people do stamp tehir own horsey on the plastic.....teh plastic cover for the fuse box I think is another rare item....check for rust everywhere too...this is a convertible you know...the top latches are surprisingly price...I think the windshield washer is rather cheap....alternators are pricey too.

    I love my mondiale "T" even though I have a 360 stradale!

1- I replaced the a/c compressor bought from danial at Ricambi ferrari parts .. just be sure that the pully matches or make sure your mechanic can swap the orig. pulley to the new compressor! Once the new compressor is in, pumping at much higher pressures I found that I was still leaking freon but from the 17 year old a/c hoses. Lucky that my friend is a great mechanic and he removed all the orig. hoses , kept the oem fittings and replaced the hoses with new ones better than stock. I highly recommend this procedure.. seems like a pain but I promise that if you do not do it now... you will leak freon very soon, then doubt about the integrity of the new or rebuilt compressor and eventually replace the 17 y/o hoses anyway, Do it right the first time and then forget about it. My 12 y/o son now tells me that it is too cold in the car [ triple black ferrari] in 90%heat in Aug. in N.Y.!!!!

I had my convertible top replaced byb ferrari of L.I. [outsourced] and it still leaked.. their response is that they all leak.. even when new! I was not happy with that answer and I am still contemplaing a new top in the future. Right now this car is only used top-down in spring and fall.

All I can say is that with all the faults, I LOVE this car and will never sell it! I just installed a hydrolic lift in my 1 car garage so that I wouldn't have to sell it!
