Help! I have a gremlin that I cannot find an answer for in the archives. I have an 89 Mondial T Cab and the dashboard, fog lights and the rear license plate lights have ceased to come on with the switch. They have worked fine for the few months. The fuse is good. I bypassed the switch and no go, so it must be good as well. The relays get warm, but no lights???? I have cleaned the fuse & relay & bulb contacts. Anyone with an answer? The previous owner must have had the same prob as in the book circuit #16 is marked. Any ideas ??? schematics on a Mondi T ? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Thanx, Dave
check under the dash for a loose wire bundled in there. I had a small bit of trouble when my toe once made contact with under the dash wiring. I then braced and zip-tied it higher up, after making sure some of the clown splices from a previous owner were taken care of. Not saying this is your issue, but worth looking.
I would replace the relays from another circuit and see it that fixes your problems. Seeing that you know where all the wires are I would use a multimeter and check for a voltage drop across the fuse, across the relay and across the bulb holder, saying that also I would do a continiuity test on the wiring also. Try to trace back the wiring for the earth for at least the rear license plate light and check that also with the meter to the cars floorpan
I'm not a Mondial expert, but I have a couple of suggestions. License plate lights should not be on their own circuit, they should be tied directly into the tail light circuit. So if the tail lights and side marker lights are working, the license lights should also be working unless: 1) The bulbs are no good, or 2) The harness to the license lights is unplugged. On the 348, the harness plug is inside the engine compartment, just below the right rear tail light housing, just behind the oil tank. It only has two wires, a yellow/red (power) and a black (ground). On the dash lights, the first thing that pops into my mind is that the illumination reostat is turned off, or has a "dead spot". Try turning on the lights and then fiddling with the reostat knob, and see what happens. On the fog lights, that's a more complicated circuit. Two questions: 1) Are you SURE that you are operating the switch for the FRONT fog lights, not the REAR fog lights? 2) When you turn on the switch, does the indicator light come on? Hope you can get it all working quickly and inexpensively!
On the 1989 Mondial T the dash, fog & license plate lights are all on the same circuit. The fog lamps used to turn on a dash indicator light indicating that they were on. That does not come on anymore..its like the while circuit is dead somewhere in the train. It must be before the switch..because I took a bridge wire and bypassed the switch and no lights. They worked last month all of them and suddenly poof! I'll buy a new relay and try it. I have replaced the fuse anyway. I will attempt to monkey with the wires under the dash. Anyone know how ro crack into the dash on the Mondi T? I only see a few bolts under the dash..nothing up towards the instument panel where the reostat is. Incidentally, the fog lights work because you can still flash them by pulling on the headlight stalk with the headlamps off. I know the lights are good and the wiring is good when it comes to that area. Any ideas why the relay would get hot with the lights not turned on? A short maybe?
- I had such trouble contorting under that damn dash to get in there. NOT easy for me, but try these drawings: http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partTable.asp?M=1&Mo=392&A=2&B=21194&S= - sort of sounds like it, better check it out, and check your FUSE box for warpage too: dangerous spot I think: had to replace mine. but might not even relate to your problem.
Is not posible for my to help you in this moment. I am to much to learn about my Mondial. I want to make major service, but i havent the documentation of the car. If you know where is posible to find it, please email to [email protected]
I replaced the most likely relay as there is not "one" for this particular circuit. To no avail. The ghost persists, still no dash/rear lic plate/fog lights. I too contorted myself on to the floorboard under the dash I felt it for two days now. Once Iwas there it was OK but getting to & fro was a chore. I cannnot get up into the rear of the instrument panel to check for a loose wire. Anyone know how to crack into it? I may try to replace a few more relays and see what happens. Replacing the old and strangely tarnished ones wouldn't be a bad thing. I found the plastic coated ones for about $9 a piece at O Reillys and little cheaper for the metal ones at NAPA. I'll keep this up for a while hoping someone else who had this problem reads this and knows the fix.
Disconnect the fog light wires at the last connector and see if there is any voltage there at all. Also check the same connector for a good ground. It's entirely possible that the circuit is fine, but there is no ground for it. In the past few weeks I have come across several electrical problems in a number of Ferrari's, all related to poor grounding. On the same note, just because a closed loop connector is bolted to what looks like part of the chassis, don't assume that this is a good ground! It's worth checking it.
