Does anyone know the exhaust diameter of the Mondial T and whether it is made of stainless or regular steel ?

Mine looks to be 2.25" (or there abouts).....and based on the look of my original exhaust, and the 56 lb. weight, I am guessing steel.

    Photo attached.

PS. I just converted over to a tubi test pipe, and straight x-pipe exhaust.... I wanted loud, and I got it. It screams.
(might be a touch too loud around town, but on the highway, or in the canyons its a hoot).

wonder what it would take to cut open that standard exhaust and clean/refine it out a bit tubi style?

I wouldda tried that, but wanted to keep the stock exhaust for the next owner someday. Even though its 56 lbs, someone may want to go back to stock, so I decided not to cut it open, or mess with the original cats.

If I need to play with anything over time, if the 'round town noise is a bit much, I will replace the test pipes with Hyperflows or glass packs....

John, do I understand, then, that your exhaust has no mufflers, resonators, or cats??? If so, a healthy tip of the cap to you, sir! My custom exhaust has only a cat to calm it down (see below), and it's SO FREAKING LOUD. I did up the exhaust diameter to 3", though, which upped the volume/bass considerably. I love it!

Great Looking exhaust ! Probably sounds FANTASTIC too.

Anyone observe much change in noise or performance by just putting a test pipe on ?

    Thanks for comments.

It has NO CATS, NO Muffler...and just the 4" resonators in the twin tips themselves.... see photos. and YES, its LOUD....really screams as you go through the gears. I LOVE IT !!

With regard to the other question about the impact of the test pipes: I did do this in stages. Test pipes replacing the cats first. Truthfully, not much gain in volume or tone. Just a bit. I am guessing that there may have been some breakdown in cat material on one cat, and ended up in the exhaust, since it rattles a bit when you shake it. So, then I moved on to the replacement of the 56 lb muffler with the "x-pipe" design.

I am still working through a fairly significant resonance issue at 1900 - 2300 rpms.... so around town is a bit too loud. I am thinking of adding 12" glass pack mufflers (small) in place of the test pipes....and see if that helps the resonance issue at the low RPM without stealing too much of the high end scream.

Next weeks project to tinker a bit.

WOW! Glad I'm not the only crazy one around here. I have a similar resonance issue (big surprise, eh?) at lower RPMs. I find that the volume is actually okay above 3K, but the resonance below that positively rattles my skull and is making me deaf(er). I know that a big reason - besides the lack of mufflers, obviously - is that I have a single 3" tip on each end, each of which essentially acts as a megaphone. Switching to dual tips will mellow the sound somewhat and eliminate some of that resonance, and adding dual resonated tips, as you have, will help even more. So that's the next step - I'm going to replace the single tips with dual resonated tips and see if that does the trick. But I do want to be careful not to lose that "wrath of god" sound that I never knew a 328 could produce!

I'd love to hear a clip of your exhaust if you have the means. I'm hoping to pick up a decent camcorder to make a video of mine in the near future.

I was told by a friend that I need to cut the flow down a bit back toward the headers....before it gets to resonating. Thats why I am going to try to install 12" glass packs instead of the test pipes.

The volume on mine is not the issue, as you say, above 2500.....its that 1800 - 2300 range. The drone will make your ears bleed, so gotta get fixed. I'll figure it out.

Will try to record the sound on my blackberry, and figure a way to post it up.....

Yes, it is these layers of drone and resonance that I am trying to avoid and still get that great Ferrari whine at full song, so appreciate the "stages" comments.

Is an air tube necessary for the cat for use on the 1989 mondial with the 348 motor as I would like to avoid any alerts or warnings ?

My Tubi test pipes have one (each)....and the glass paks that I will have fabbed up next week will, too, just to be sure.
If the glass paks work well....I might sell the Tubi's.

Not sure if they would "alert" without the sensors in place. My GT4 ('79) did not when I put on straight pipes with no sensors.
