I've got the seat belt blues on the driver's side of the Mondial t. The passenger side works well, but the driver's side isn't working properly. Has anyone come up with a decent fix for these problematic seat belts? I used the search but wasn't able to find anything about repair of the moving belts.

It depends on what is going wrong. Sometimes the leather trim interferes with the unit sliding along the track, so you need to be sure that it isn't rubbing anywhere. Other times it is the small microswitch under the interior door sill trim that gets loaded with dirt/dust or just goes bad. You can source a replacement at Radio Shack for very small $. Lastly, I had one side where the plastic cover over the microswitch assembly had cracked (this cover also integrate the arm that presses the microswitch). In my case I was able to glue it back together, but otherwise you might need to replace it.

If the motorized mouse isn't properly functioning, Ferrari has a recall on some models where they pay 100% (e.g. Ferrari 348 Spiders).

If the non-motorized retractable mechanism isn't retracting, try blowing compressed air into the unit while the seat belt is fully extended, and then hand squeeze in dry graphite dust. Work the belt in and out for a bit and that often fixes the issue.

Thanks, I've seen the recall, actually gone to the site. For some reason, only the TRs and 348s were listed, even though the Mondial had the same mechanism. I asked Ferrari if they would warranty, but never got a response, which I guess, is a response.

We were discussing this last weekend at the 'Wine Country' get together. I have a mind to re-engineer this mech. to make it work all the time. Have a 'spare' I'm going to look closely over and see what it takes to industrialize it better.

However, the above remarks are good. It still seems that when I have 'fixed' it that I still get problems. For instance, replaced driver's side last June with entirely new track, motor, and switch, and today after getting out at work, the driver's side didn't go anywhere. Unbuckled the chest strap, got out, closed the door and the D&*n runner goes fwd towards its away position.

It's such a clumsy mech. too, just seems like they used an antenna style motor and cable on a flimsy track and and called that an auto-seatbelt which just passes for initial inspection. This and the 456 seats items are such a waste in my mind. They should have just been left mechanical rather than electric. Especially the 456.

will go home tonight and look it over again, perhaps take some pics and post Wed. but moving offices today, and.....

On my car when you turn the key the seat belts continue to tighten around your neck and will *seriously* choke you, and they will not relax even if you turn the key off. The secret has been to hold a few inches of slack with one hand until the mouse stops. I like it that way. I see it as a secondary insurance policy, if my car ever gets stolen there's a chance I'll find it just a few feet down the road, with one dead thief in it.

perhaps better to leave the key in it also.....
