Hello everyone. Out of winter hibernation (1989 Mondial t and me) and the battery is dead. My Schumacher battery charger either was never installed correctly, defective or who knows what. I suspected I would need a new battery anyway, so I purchased an Optima red top 34R and installed it yesterday. I am sure Ferrari had some reason for making access to the battery so difficult, LOL, anyway I removed the wheel (after realizing that there is no jack kit and not knowing the size of the socket to use to remove the lug-requiring additional purchases, of course). Car started like a charm, BUT I noticed after letting the car warm up for 10+ minutes that the warning light for engine "slow down cyl 5-8" was on. On restart about an hour later (without having driven the car) the warning light did not come on. Cause for concern? Let me know everyone.

The second issue is a wet spot detected on the driveway behind the driver's side front wheel. I note that there are two tubes that run on the inside of the wheel well--are they drain tubes? The spot developed after I rolled the car out and it sat while I was removing the wheel and changing the battery. The car was not started when it happened, nor did the spot get larger as the car was waming up when started. The spot did not puddle, but was about 1 foot in diameter. This morning, when I got up the spot was still there, so obviously not just water which would have evaporated. What is it everyone? I will check all the fluid levels, especially the brake/clutch and power steering fluid reservoir, which is in that general area.

Let me know experts. Thanks. Frank

Slow-down light is well researched/know here and a simple search will lead you to a few different options as to why it is happening. Essentially, the light is telling you that something is runnig hot on that side of the engine. It could be anything from a fouled O2 sensor to a bad ECU to mention a few.

As for the puddle on the floor, did you feel or smell it? Rub it between your fingers...oily or not? I have not been digging around mine for a bit but pretty sure there are hood drain lugs on either side of the wipers under the hood...if you are still stuck in the morning, let me know and I can check when I am at the shop.

Both reported issues have gone away. A rare Ferrari self-fix.

Why did I speak so quickly about the problem going away. Today, after only 5 minutes of driving the slow 5-8 came on again. Now I have to figure out where the ECU thingys are at. I did a search and saw posted pics of the alleged spot where I should find it but, of course, I cannot find it there. As I face the engine bay from the rear bumper I see what appears to be the ECU on the left side, but mine has BOSCH on it. Is that it? For the life of me I cannot find it on the right (passenger) side of the engine bay. Help.
