Does anyone know the whereabouts of this 1992 Mondial t Valeo Cab, vin #ZFFRK33A8N0092409? Pervious owner had commissioned us to perform Classiche certification on this car. The car has since been sold and previous owner will not reply to phone calls or e-mails. Looking for current owner because we have the Classiche certification book that belongs to this car. Thank you for any help you can give! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm fascinated that noone can find this car now. There were not many U.S. Valeos. Watching with interest.
Wasn't valeo Ferraris attempt at some kind of auto gearbox? Is the value of a valeo car higher than 6speed or the other way around?
Because only a couple hundreds of these were made, it's supposed to be more valuable. The flipside of the coin is that the system is very complex and only few people know how to service it, so in case of issues, you'll need a lot of patience and money! I met the guy who developed the valeo system for Ferrari during a meeting on the F40's history, he's maybe one of 10 people left who know how it works. Anyhow, here in Europe asking prices are a bit higher, about 10 - 20%, sometimes people try to sell it for 100% more than a standard one, but most of the time these don't sell at that price level.
Valeo's are standard gearboxes, identical to a manual transmission. The only difference is an actuator that engages the clutch pedal when the driver touches the shift lever. Does it command a premium, well, the one referenced here sold for $75,000 two years ago. I haven't heard of any other T's that have sold at/near that price of late. In the US, Eugenio, Dave Helms, Jack Babbitt knows the system to name a few. I'm sure there are others. The system is really not complex, the assumption that all techs know these cars is what makes them seem complex. No SD1, no way to properly service them.
You have the owners information, provided above. It seems you don't have the owners willingness to pay for it, unfortunately.
The PREVIOUS owner ordered the service, sold the car in the interim, never picked up the red book (unclear whether he paid). Now the red book is an orphan.
It would help if the new owners knows if there is an open fee to pay for this book.or it is for free. Guido
