A local exotic car club is doing a track day in a couple of months at Brainerd International Raceway. I'm trying to decide whether I should take my Mondial up for it. It's a 1986 with 21k miles. It's in absolutely excellent condition.

Thoughts? Crazy to put it through the punishment? Or will it love it and want more?

My other option is an Audi S4, which is frankly a lot more capable but would be less of an experience.

Is yours a coupe or cabriolet? It would be a good idea to check the requirements to see if you need a roll bar on a cabriolet. There is usually also a "helmet clearance" requirement if you have a roll bar.

Go for it, but be prepared to replace the brake pads and tires depending on how hard you push it.

Might also be a good time to check your insurance policy to see if it covers racetrack damage/losses.

Policy doesn't cover track days, so I will pick up a one-off policy to cover me for the day (whichever car I take).

Whichever car, do a brake fluid flush with good high temp fluid. Motul 600 (RBF) is reasonably priced and will have a higher boiling point than most others.

Probably not a bad idea to also use better pads. Depending on experience and how hard you drive, go for track/street combo pads, or race pads, like Hawk Blue's.

If you want to learn how to bed the brakes, check out Dave Zeckhausens' website.

    Regards,
    Jerry

Take the Ferrari, you can push it as far as you are comfortable. Don't worry about how the car feels about it, you will thank you for the experience. :D
