    Hi Gang,
My wife's '83 Mondial windows are sloooooow. I did the standard rebuild on my 308 motors/gears last year to pep them up. Anyone know if the Mondial window motors/gears are similar and benefit from the same cleaning/lubing as a cure for the slow window malady? What about the slow sunroof? How hard is that sucker to take apart?

    Thanks

I just saw a write up and pictures of a Testarossa window job and the principle is the same. Cables, pulleys and a gearbox full of hardened grease. My guess is it would be Deja Vu' on the Mondial.

    Birdman!

You can spend Thousand$$$$$$$ on a Mondial sunroof! Be careful.....

Maybe just work some lube into it, without disassembly?????

Advice well heeded!! I'll try that. It's not actually THAT slow, but since I have no other Mondial for comparison....

What kind of lube do you recommend? Silicone? Lithium grease?

Verell, I looked at the exploded diagrams, but they don't show the presence or absence of hardened grease! (And I looked really closely at the diagrams too! LOL) I'm assuming that it's the same basic deal as a 308, but I figured maybe someone here had done it on a Mondial and could confirm before I start taking doors apart! :) Gotta pick my battles, this car has many issues to be addressed.

Compared the FPC dwgs of Mondial,308GT4, & 308s. door motors are diff. p/ns, but appear identical in the drawings. So would expect the same grease problems.

Use lithium grease on the slides, etc. where there are signs of prior grease. Use silicone spray on rubber seals & places where there's no obvious lube.

However, bet that biggest payback is in cleaning old grease out of the cable & lubeing it along with cleaning the old grease out of the motor gearbox. Have had old grease problems with both windshield wiper & door motors on various cars starting w/my '58 XK150s, usually responded vy well to cleaning & fresh grease.

BTW, sunroof mechanical alignment can be a real PITA, don't take it apart unless you absolutely have to. About 4 years ago I spent 2 days getting my Rx7's sunroof aligned so it wouldn't drag.

Verell, you are usually a guy unafraid of taking anything apart. If you tell me not to take something apart, NO WAY am I taking it apart! The sunroof shall stay together and get lubed!

    Thanks Jeff........LOL!

I'm a GTB driver remember.......but I hang out at the shop a LOT.....making mental notes.....

We had a nice GT4, the last year had sunroofs......it's a marginal mechanism with esoteric parts......most of which are not available.

Verrell's lube rec's. are spot on, as usual.

"SLOW" is a relative term, after all, Birdman!!!!! ;)

Maybe spray something with a cling factor, like chainsaw bar lube or motorcycle chain lube, into unreachable areas at pivot points, give it some love........

There are multiple threads on window motors, etc. However, before you start pulling things apart, check for voltage drop to the motors. I went through the entire drill of greasing, new motors, new cables, etc. to find out the main problem was voltage drop through the window switches. I wish I knew about ferrarichat prior to that exercise.

Grounding is also a major issue in play, as well.

Dedicated ground wires often perk them right up.......

A loose ground was the main reason why my passenger side window switch wouldn't work but I didn't know it until I replaced all three switches.
