Hi all, been looking for a right hand side wing/door mirror. Part number is 61182500 and is an extortionate price of over $500USD from eurospares here in the UK.

It's a 1987 3.2 and and I only need the outer plastic shell. I don't mind buying the whole mirror but not at that price. Is there a cross reference with a Fiat, Alfa or Lancia part maybe?

To be honest I'm getting sick and tired of these prices we are faced with for these unreliable cars. I feel I'm getting robbed. I have seen some so called sponsors on F Chat charging 2 or even 3 times more than Ferrari, but that's probably for another thread.

    Many thanks.

    Hi Mate

The door mirrors are off the E24 6 series BMW. Look on Ebay for them.

So what does low price parts and reliability got to do with owning and driving a fine Italian sports car?

Thanks Nell, I need the drivers side. Do you know if it's the same black matt finish as the Mondial? If not I may have to spray both to match.

    Cheers, great stuff!

Sorry Peter I am not sure I understand your question, I am not sure what the colour of new back covers are from BMW but secondhand ones would obviously be what ever colour the car was, there might have been matt black ones.

Look at this, they come in black, secondhand much cheaper though, keep looking at Ebay a drivers side one will come up.

Wow Neil, you are right. Ferrari invested in their own rear frame though - see below.
Are the attachments and connectors identical too?

It's crazy that the same part brand new from bmw is so much cheaper by such a huge difference! See what I mean about getting ripped off. But this is great news to replace it.

Neil, you answered my question, I found 2nd hand ones but are chrome or body coloured. If I don't find black I will spray it up. Thanks for the attachment.

In fact the only part I need is the outer frame part as pictured by Afterburner above which has the small
Ferrari logo on it, not that I care about it being there if I get the bmw equivalent. It's been broken since I bought the car and irritates me to look at it though it's not noticeable unless you know it's there.

    Thanks.

You could probably try to either soda or dry-ice blast then boots to remove the paint.
I believe there are products out there that would restore the rubber to an acceptable finish after blasting.

Is there a piece missing or just cracked?
If it is only a crack, you can probably bond it with ABS glue...

It's cracked with a small piece missing. In fact the previous owner covered the damage with black electrical tape very well and you can't see it's damaged at all. It has that same matt black finish and is smooth.

It's no big deal but would like to get it replaced so it's right

    Cheers.

Can you glue in a piece of black ABS and sand/polish it out? Would allow you to keep the original mirror... :)

Gents, when you are replacing wing mirrors, keep in mind that RHD and LHD cars have different mirrors on the same side. The angle to the body in the passenger side is roughly double of the driver's side due to the offset driver's position to one side. Also, the distance to the 2 mirrors being very different for the same reason, the mirror curvatures for driver's and passenger's side are different so that the image for the driver is the same size as seen in either mirror.

Would the exterior shell that Peter needs be the same?

I am not 100% sure but I should think so. Usually, the difference is in the mirror base (the triangle that sits on the body), not the mirror housing. And as I said, in the mirror's curvature.

It has been a while since I did mine, I cannot remember the electrical connectors.

I bought a pair for the glass in the mirrors and the back covers, I think though in the end I used the ferrari door mounts (they are different to the E24 ones), I put them on the E24 mirrors and then resprayed the back covers to Rossa Corsa.

I do know though the remote door mirror switch on the inside drivers door is from a E28 BMW 5 series, used one on my car.

Heater control valve is also BMW E28 5 series with one slight difference, in the end here though I got a rebuild kit from the States for about $30 shipped to UK.

    Thanks Claude,

it seems everything I find is the left side but I need the right side.

I think the bmw option is the way to go if I don't find one.

    Cheers.
