Congrats Ben! Looks like a nice ride! Nothing wrong with the looks! This is how a real daily driver looks like. I almost did 15,000 miles myself in 2 years and the seats significantly wears out dispite the leather treatment I am giving them with Meguiars leather condition. It's important to clean out the seams often as all the debris cought by it works as sandpaper.

And the engine bay.. it is just a dust collector when doing miles :) fellow chat member Bell has made a nice floorpan to prevent that.
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/mondial/440830-increasing-flat-floorpan-undertray-area.html

The rusty frame is/was from a leaking clutch slave cylinder. Dot4 that comes out of the cylinder just dissolves the paint if not cleaned in time. (Pic10) So check if it is leaking.

May we ask how much you paid for it?

Enjoy it and have save miles!

hi, cheers for the encouragement folks, still having a few pangs of doubts naturally, but am 100% committed (to the mondial asylum). I didn't mention the good news, has a new roof and belt service.
The clutch slave thing leak sounds pretty worrying!
I hope it is something historic.
60,000 miles might be due a new clutch, but yeah I can handle a spanner - still i was hoping to start gently like shocks update and rust sandpapering.
Like the 3.2s which will hopefully suit me as i wanted ABS but also "relative" simplicity eek. You can make a good case for all the variants though.
I like black best but they are rarely for sale.
I bid up to £19170 then it got stuck at £18900 ($29000) for the last 30 mins. i was expecting to be sniped - but wasnt.
Problem is i will export it to sweden where they will dump 25% sales tax on top at the port which makes it not the bargain i was hoping for, in fact probably means i paid over the odds.
I reckon about £26000 ($40000) including registration, no to mention lots of faffing about with paperwork. :(
Im hoping the main things wrong : wheels/seat/valance are superficial quick fixes with local leather piece replacement. The rear exhaust box doesnt look to clever either! *gulp* must buy some brave pills.
The pinky paint might just be the photos (yeah, right) so maybe a machine polish with colour restorer might do the trick for a couple of years or so - or perhaps that is a stupid idea.
Wanted somewhere to put the few quid i have saved and have a bit of fun so it seemed sensible yesterday anyhoo :D nearest to this i had before was a Fiat Barchetta and have currently have a turbo Elise which is my never-sell car. This Mondial will be my family car, as it is so practical to lift children in and out of a four seat convertible - haha :D plus I mainly cycle everywhere!
Hoping it doesnt arrive at port like this:

For most of us who are just regular JOE's, owning a Ferrari is one of Life's top accomplishments you can cross off the bucket list.

CONGRATULATIONS, YOU OWN A FERRARI !!! :) How many can say that???

All is fixable ;) and the clutch slave cylinder sounds more terrifying then it really is. £99 fix
Clutch Parts for Ferrari Mondial - Superformance

Why not get it to the UK first? You will have less trouble I think. Once in Europe the paperwork becomes more easy in Sweden and will cost you less is my guess (Like in NL) if you are a UK citizen.

hmmmm thats interesting to take to UK first, i am a UK citizen but resident in Sweden.
VAT is 20% UK vs 25%. Still im not sure if i could be bothered with the extra hassle. Swedish bureacracy is not the simplest.

Have noticed Europeans buy the coupes and Murcans the cabriolets > its a bit odd. Also Mondials seem to be 80% red, very few blue, mad pruple, yellow or black which is a pity. Anyhoo red looks great.
Seen quite a few now with the 360 wheels on them, whats that all about? I supposed to use rubber band tyres? Plus might be starting to grow on me / look ok.
    One job saved haha :D
The underplate idea from MVT / Bell bloke sound a good one as im used to ally plates under on the Elise and like the cleanliness it creates.
What is the middle flat bit, is that chassis or detachable?
Is there an online service manual link or PDF anywhere?
Whats the deal with the comedy front axle ride height?, im not planning to put snow chains on it! :D hopefully someone on here has a guide on how to lower that and not bugger the geometry up and hopefully dial out understeer. Do Ohlinsdo shocks for these? they are just down the road from me.
Buying wise seem to have a lot of cars "for sale" at daft prices at dealers in Europe but not many accessible. This kind of drives up prices.
    Seen a GT4 for €75,000 bloody hell!
Wonder what the percentage breakdown of cars is ; used daily / used weekly / garage queens / forecourt semi permanent residents.

Mondials came with Michelin TRX tires (metric),
which are expensive and not readily available anymore (obsolete).
so people changed the wheels to accommodate tires that are cheaper, better, and more readily available.

Just to think if it.. you will need to replace the headlights to European Standard for sure in Sweden. Not sure if that is the case in the UK. That would another reason to get it to UK first. I know from Swedish colleagues importing a car from another EU country is piece of case and Sweden must expect how the car is if it is from the UK like in NL. Almost all US vehicle cross UK if imported to NL. Except for pick-up trucks... they go to Germany first as the wheel suspension will not pass MOT here.

Im guessing with the cracked seat cushion covers, you just send them off to a trusted trimmer for refurb or replacement..

Yeah im up for that, sharing the pain and the glory, hopefully the leaking clutch fluid wont corrode a hole in the container ship and sink it just off Iceland > or drip on a car underneath. But shirley they know to put a drip tray under an old italian car :D
Also i dont want to dominate the thread. I can just start a thread if the mods dont want hassle on a summer Sunday.

Next purchase or purchase/sales musing folks!

I received a follow up e-mail from Ferrari of New England in reference to the T coupe that they have for sale, so it still hasn't been sold if anyone is looking.

Very nice looking. Any movement off of the website price? Pretty impressive asking price. May be due to the "seldom-seen factory sunroof!"?? All 43 t coupes in the U.S. had the factory sunroof AFAIK. Perhaps they meant "seldom seen WORKING factory sunroof!?? :)

    Regards.

I think that is the same car that sold here on Fchat a couple of moths ago, the one that sold within 5 hours for 39k. I would imagine they will have to negotiate some on the price in order to move the car but in this market nothing would surprise me.
The 139.5 for the 83 308 really blew me away I think that is a record asking price for a 83 308.

Well, it sold for $39k in about 5 hours, so we know it was underpriced. But almost double? Not unless the dealer had to put in $10k or more to bring it up to snuff (doubtful). Although like you say, nothing is surprising, everything seems to be ratcheting up quickly. But selling that car in the mid $60's in todays market wouldn't shock me.

I admit that I am heavily biased, but I think the Mondial is way more car than the 308, yet as you note, they are priced much higher. Sometimes it is hard to figure out the market.

    Regards,
    Jerry
