IMO, that 87 at gateway (at $45k) is a little high for the condition, and some of the thing you notice in the pics like overspray (maybe more to the cars' story), etc. I was interested in it while it was on the BAT auction site for mid $30K's. I just don't think it's a mid $40k car even with the current higher prices. A little car searching and you could find a nicer one for less. JMWO
Thank you guys for your support. I am looking and can't seem to find one that easy. If anyone can help finding one, I'll be happy
Not sure if you have a specific color in mind, but here seems to be a nice one (I don't know this car) if you look for a specific color combination it will be difficult. Oldtimesfarm is a respected classic seller and they dig up most of the issues upfront and list it. This one has TRX tires (costly tires) my favorite btw.. Front bumper is off with the body as I can see, but don't let that scare you. ask questions I would say https://www.oldtimerfarm.be/en/collection-cars-for-sale/4016/ferrari-mondial-t-coupe-87.php#.WoABXOco-Mo Here a german site that lists most of the european sales. https://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/search.html?damageUnrepaired=NO_DAMAGE_UNREPAIRED&isSearchRequest=true&makeModelVariant1.makeId=8600&makeModelVariant1.modelId=34&maxPowerAsArray=PS&minPowerAsArray=PS&scopeId=C HTH Tijn
Oh.. BTW I found one in California and did a PPI on it. Result came up as follows, Needs clutch, some suspension bushings and axle boots, ac needs to be charged (?), probably brakes and some hoses. Mileage in the 30k range. Timing belts and tensioners have been replaced recently. Car is in nice condition. He's asking 42k. I guess that's too high. Correct?
a 3.2 or a T? It good that you do a PPI. I think nowadays it is the price of a reasonal Mondial 3.2 or a T. The PPI outcome is normal for such an age of the car. DIY repair price: between 2000/2500 USD Specialist: 10K at least
It's a 3.2 cabriolet . I don't want a T because I'm going to import it to Israel and here we do not have Specialists. I will be doing a lot of the work with the help of an excellent mechanic. Hmmm. I'm ready to pay a bit more to find one that doesn't need work but I can't seem to find. I think I might be considering this one seriously.
Cabriolets are nice! you have a picture? In all fairness.. I don't think you will find one that has not the mentioned issues or maybe some of the issues not listed on a next PPI, but then other stuff will most likely pop up on the list. Add up the money you will pay extra for a good one and for a next PPI it will not make a huge difference, if at all and time spend searching for one. If this is the one you really like then go for it unless someone here want's to sell his 3.2 Cabriolet. What I am trying to say is, there are a lot of horses out there that need maintenance and a lot of horses having had the right maintenance in here. things to look at: Look at the fuse box, if it all has the new colored Bosch relays installed or the metal ones. This is a sign the owner did take care of it. Be aware most old Ferrari's (even F40's) need a new fuse board or an upgrade. I will be installing mine soon as it begins to fail. Does it have new or really old tires. If still old the owner did not spend money on it and even not his own safety. You do not want to be driving on more then 8 year old tires preferable 5 if you are a fast driver. I've seen already quite some tire failures since I own this type of car. Brake liquid reservoir. Black oil or yellowish transparent. Black is means it is renewed for a long time. There is much more, but this is something you can check yourself fairly simply. Hope you will find what you are looking for!

Thank you for all the information. Such a great forum. I agree with you about the issues it has for its age, however I prefer to find one that doesn't need so much work. I just looked and noticed the tires are old. In the meantime.. I'm still looking. How can I post a ' Want to buy thread? Thanks
This is how it works: Let's say a car is 40k in the US + 2k shipping = 42k X 120 percent import customs = 92.4 k X 17 percent VAT = 108 + at least 2k licensing fees = 110k All this is without the fees of the customs broker which normally is another 3k or so. = 113k So a 40k car ends up 113k in Israel.
This post needs a dislike button. That's unbelievable!! I wonder what is was like at the meeting where they came up with that. "Let's do 100% import duty before VAT." "No, make it 120%." "Ok, sounds good!" Any chance of it becoming something reasonable in the future? So sorry to see a car collector fleeced like that.
It's crazy! They do it only because they can! We have no choice but to pay Future looks even worse lol. Thanks
Whatever you’re willing to pay -color? -interior? -miles? -tires? -major? I could list variables forever.
Agreed. First ask yourself - cab or coupe? Then do you prefer QV, 3.2 or t? Then if you want a driver or a concours? then color (ext and int) do you have the ability to wrench on it yourself? - if not - a good major service tech should be as I don't recommend Ferrari dealer prices.
Photographs well https://www.ebay.com/itm/1982-Ferrari-Mondial/273067073529?hash=item3f9410dff9:g:m~oAAOSw3d5agiLd&vxp=mtr No affiliation. Price too high but looks beautiful in that livery IMHO Joe
IMO, what we saw last week on BaT is a sign of what's to come. Mondial's have been undervalued for a long time. What's the price of a good one? Less than a 328 in the same condition... If the cab fetched $66k, why can't a 1/43 coupe go for $80k? That said I think $40-80k depding on condition, maintenance history and mileage is fair for T coupes. If you bought it for less, you will pay more. The days of cheap are over.
I don't know why... but I think prices will be coming down in the near future... all these older cars lambos, porsches Ferrari's etc... went up a lot in the past few years... Just my gut feeling... I hope I am wrong... but time will tell
I personally feel the same way. I think we're at a high water mark. That being said - since Mondials are already pretty cheap - the delta should not be as severe as other models if you do buy now.
Cars that have reached stratospheric prices will come down; Dino's, 911's, M3's, Lambos because the prices are simply ridiculous. The only reason why Mondial's are on the low side of the spectrum is because of negative press and ignorance. I wouldn't count on these cars dropping in value anytime soon. I've said it before and I'll say it again; The reason why Mondial's are perceived as higher maintenance than other models is due to the fact that they had lower points of entry due to negative press. People bought them, drove them and flipped them in many cases. Years of deffered maintenance is why you hear some horror stories today. If you want one, buy the best one you can find. Pay now or pay later, you're going to have to pay to play.
Dinos are rare and beautiful, so I doubt they will go down in value much. But 911s and M3s (I assume you mean BMW M3?) are mass-produced and over-priced. I have no opinion on Lambos. I agree that as Mondis overcome the negative press, their prices delta vis-a-vis contemporaneous 3X8 models will become less and less. Mondials are rare, beautiful, and fun to drive. They don't deserve to be priced so much lower than their contemporary 3X8.
