Hi everybody, I'm a new French guy on the forum. I've got a simple question for you, everything is in the title. When my father was looking for a Ferrari, we tried several 308 GT4 before buying the 400 Automatic.

So I'm pretty used to the back places of the GT4 : it's VERY tight ! I was asking myself about the Mondial : OK, the coupe is pretty larger at the rear (on pictures ;) ), but is there an important difference speaking about legroom between the coupe and the cabriolet?

Thanks for your answers, and greetings to all the Mondi owners & lovers here.

The back seat is narrower in the cab.

As far as back seat room between a GT/4 and a coupe, The Mondy is just slightly bigger.

In the Mondial, the coupe has more leg-room for the driver than the cabriolet does. Similar to the GT4.

As for the backseat, I've only been in the backseat of a Mondial cab, so I don't know what the coupe would be like.

The mondial seats are quite narrow which allows a rear seat passengers leg to stretch out next to the front seat. In fact there is a rubber foot rest on the handbrake box so the rear passenger has moor room. I have had 4 adults in my mondial for an hour long drive and they said they were quite comfortable in the rear with the front seats moved forwards.

I've got one of each in the driveway, the coupe wins in the leg room dept for both front and rear. the back seats in the cab are also a bit narrow to accommodate the cab frame.
I prefer the early coupe as the center console is narrow and this really helps those who are tall and sport a larger than size 9 shoe. I'm 6'4" and wear a size 13.5 or 49uk shoe, and surprisingly I can work all 3 pedals!

The Mondial has a 100mm longer wheelbase than the GT4, which directly benefits the rear passengers (can't move the pedals any further forward than the Dino/Mondial, and the firewall is the same thickness on both cars)
To my understanding, the Mondial Cab shouldn't have less legroom than the coupe, but the same as measured from the rear seat back to the back of the front seat back.
The soft top folds behind the seats and on top of the engine (there is an access panel behind the seats on the cab because of that).
But due to the top's structure reaching down behind the doors, the seat width is reduced compared to the coupe's.

However, the t' s seats are thicker and squarish compared to the previous versions', so the 't feels less roomy as your knees can't comfortably sit next to the front seat backs.

Afterburner beat me to my question with his answer.

Could someone with more mondial knowedge explain WHY there is more legroom front to rear in the cab vs. coupe? I believe the early 8's had no center vents for the rear seat, so the legroom was a little wider, but no change in length.

okay you all made me go out and grab the tape measure for some quick checking.

Now this is interesting becaouse now I'm going to have to figure out why the coupe and where exactly the extra 3"'s is coming from.

    here's what I did,
from the front of the front seat track to the back seat is:
    27" in the Cab
    30" in the Coupe

from the front seat track to the end of the flat just under the pedals is the same at 25.5" however the Cab when your sitting in you sit closer to the dash, the track mounting is different as well.

the layout is just different enough, I think it's due to the rear access panel and folding top location moving things a bit.

The Mondial cab 3.2 that I own (Swiss model) has some reinforcing beam just under the back of each of the front seats which means you can't slide your feet under the seat at all when seated in the rear. The back seats themselves are quite roomy, but the leg (foot?) room is very poor because of no room for your feet in a natural seating position. Just guessing, but perhaps the hardtop does not need this reinforcement and has a better rear seating outcome.

Thank you for all this answers ;) .

I think that the space left for the passengers is not the most important point for a sportscar, but th Mondial has this "family's Ferrari" reputation (maybe more than the 400/412/456 which have the "businessman's Ferrari" touch :) ) so I thought that this legroom thing was a good thread to start.

Really funny to see some of you guys take the measures.
