We have already have contacted Ferrari and our date and time for our tour will be sent when the 2010 F1 schedule is set in concrete.

We are in the planning stage and have not decided to either to Fly, take a train or drive from Nice to Maranello.

So far via the internet we not found a train that gets to Modena with changing trains and taking long time.

Takeing a plane seems restricted to Bologna, but involves changing planes in Munich.

Seems the best is rent a car, we have a Ferrari Traffic Assist Pro portable GPS, and drive from Nice to Maranello.

    Have any suggestions?

Nice to Maranello is 4/5 hours of highway depending on traffic and driving style.

I have done the journey several times (actually hundreds of times up to Milan). It shouldn't be a problem. Just watch out for speed cameras ;)

I don't think that a plane is worth it for 400kms and I have no experience with going there by train.

The historic event is fixed for the week of May 15 2010 which makes the Grand Prix May 29 almost certainly - often the first draft schedule is published late June

Your sat nav will work better if you spell your destination as Monaco !

Also make sure it has the European maps

As others have noted generally the train is generally quite an easy way to get away from Nice into Italy so it might be worth considering getting the car from the station with the first bad train connection

It has the European maps plus the US maps. One thing though it did not have a Ferrari Dealer listed in Orlando - but Maserati they are both the same.

It is supposed to have all the Ferrai Dealer in the US and Europe. Actually it is a Becker badged as Ferrari Traffic Assist Pro the model is a Z 250.

The historics are 8 & 9 May 2010 (we already have reservations, becoming harder to obtain now) and the F1 races are set thru 2014 with the date for 2010 being 20-23 May.

I have checked with the time tables and to get from Nice Ville to Modena (no train to Maranello) it is a 13 hr to 14 hr trip that does not run everday, then a cab to Maranello, I think renting a car in Nice and driving to Maranello would be more practical.

    Hi,
I have been in Maranello last month for the RM Auction. You have a local bus from Modena to Maranello and versus. It's almost 45 minuts distance.

I did this exact driving route last September. I however went down to Pisa first as I had never been there before, I left Nice/Monaco at about 9AM and made it to Maranello via Pisa by about 2PM including a short stop at the tower. The route from Nice to Pisa is very nice and the first bit is one of the most amazing highways I've ever been on. Its up in the hills and over looks the sea, then into Italy and along the edge of the mountains in the central bit and the coastland on the right.. The route from the coast to the factory is rather boring on the highway, but if you take back roads into Maranello there are some amazing roads over the mountains/hills down into Maranello. If you have never been to Pisa then that route would be a fun one to try.

Dont know if you are heading back to Nice but the A26 running North/South just west of Genova is another amazing highway. It literally is a highway in the sky going through the mountains down to the sea and I would highly recommend driving along it.

    here was entire trip

Given this is a forum for people who are supposedly into driving I would say no contest - rent something original and enjoy driving a car you can't get in the US on roads where driving is a pleasure. If I were you I would never dream of lugging my luggage around with me between hot & dirty train stations when I could be experiencing something as fun as a Fiat 500 or a diesel Alfa Romeo that gets me exactly from A to B on some of the most beautiful roads in Europe

I do likewise and whenever I'm in the US I always rent an SUV or some other detroit iron that we don't get in Europe and I wouldn't dream of going Amtrak. For me New Jersey Turnpike and american 18 wheelers are exotic ;)

    Title says it all.

In the USA if I can get there in 2 days (that is just about every where from Kansas), I drive.

we got it all changed in one day - airline/hotel/event tickets - actually we were headed to Laguna Seca for the last ALMS race in October and in checking email in the AA club before departure, got an email from the ticket company in the UK with the change which alerted us to the new dates - after a quick call to the UK we got everything else changed while driving to the race! We had pre-paid the hotel in Nice and with an email explanation, they just changed the dates/didn't have to pay any additional on airfare as we kept the same flights just changed dates. I think Steven was in more dire straights with his F1 plans than we were with our Historic ones.
    Thanks

    Carol
