Bob, spent much time on the Monterey Peninsula? In the coastal areas (Monterey, Pebble Beach, Carmel), every August day begins shrouded in fog, followed by gloomy overcast, and then finally a few hours of sunlight and warmth in the afternoon. Since the best time to take pics at these events is in the morning, before the crowds get so heavy you can no longer see the cars, they're usually taken while it's still overcast.

It's a somewhat different story farther inland (Laguna Seca, Carmel Valley, Salinas), where the August days generally just go from chilly and overcast to scorching hot sun as if someone were flipping a switch.

I have been to Monterey and the crazy car week for more than 35 years in a row now and out of these had maybe 3 or 4 times really super sunny weather. Fog and overcast is normal here, at this time of the year. Always bring a sweater. Be prepared. Last year (2015) it was unusually nice and warm the entire ten days (from the pre-historics to Monday after Pebble Beach Concours). But, as Wayne says, as soon as you go 3 miles east, towards Laguna Seca or Carmel Valley, it gets much warmer and there is great sun.

Last year was unusually summery weather. This year was much more typical but the fires didn't help as it added some extra layers to the air.

    Texas!
What's cool is being at Laguna Seca and watching the fog roll in during the afternoon hours. Coming from Texas, I call it "free air conditioning!"

This was the first year that I was able to attend the events and in fact was my first visit to monterey area . It was quite a difference left 97 degree weather for a week of temps in the 60s.. This will have to be an annual event for me . I made it to about 3 event per day .. On my first evening I looked out my hotel room window and saw a couple of interesting cars old mustang a broken down Bristol and what looked to be an old Ferrari maybe a 166 barchetta .. So after a few hours I went over and it turned out to be Reggie Jacksons collection in a very unmarked building interesting to see.. And of course everything was for sale he had maybe 100 cars mostly chev productsetc.. .
Went up to Laguna seca one morning and the fog came in so heavy I became a little lost .. So left and went back a couple of hours later the track is a blast ended up spending a few hours several days there...
Met some nice people at the track and elsewhere ..
And finally saw the new f12 TDF ...

I've often thought that overcast provides the best, most even lighting in which to enjoy a fine car show.

Luckily that's 'par for the course' at Pebble Beach. ( :) )

I could t be there this year, so thanks a million to Marcel for the photos and Wayne for posting.

Well done to el Wayne and marcel to quality, quantity and most defiantly the speed in which this thread has progressed in just days we are upto 20 pages.

Very impressed by it all, so much to take in especially in one sitting I will have to return with more time. Thanks.

Can I just ask, on a few of the older cars, one which stands out is a 275 which was in yellow, the colour looked as though it is giallo fly. My questions are. ?

Is this a historic colour and if so how old is it ?

iirc I've seen a few Dinos in this colour but not sure if they were original colours. And was the first car painted for a customer or simply offered by the factory. ?

    Thanks in advance.

Edit:- just want to add, I searched Google and this thread was offered in the results, which gives a bit more detail to the colour anyway.

....a few more. Forgive me for not having vin numbers or other details. Amazing weekend and amazing cars. Still, I LOVE my 77 308 GTB (yellow one in front of Casa Ferrari,...and I DO know that chassis number, 22181). I do envy the rare older cars. Congrats to the owners, and thank you for taking the time to display (and race!) them. Particularly the owner/driver of the 312PB....you showed heart on Sunday, loved to watch your car. You and your partner obviously cherish that wonderful machine! It was a privilege to be able to have a close up look at her....

I also want to make a 'shout out' for the Meguiar's Car Care product company. Their staff were at Casa Ferrari working their tails off giving complementary details to any owner who asked. I truly appreciated their courtesy and hard work. A great company and great products. Thank you again. (no affiliation)
