Did you by chance take a close look at this 1/2 GTC display piece? Was it all fiberglass or was there actual trim pieces and real mag wheels w/ knockoffs? Do you recall the winning bid? Thank you in advance.

I appreciate your response. $65k! Yikes! Maybe I should make a mold of my GTC and start selling wall hangings.

Course it wouldn't have the provenance of hanging on the wall at Ecurie Francorchamps for a few decades....lol!

Small market, niche, not easy to sell.
    Open headlights not everybody‘s favorite.
I think it is a fantastic car.

It belongs to a friend of mine who had other cars at Gooding. He's a very discerning and enthusiastic collector. I've seen the car, but not really inspected it. Marcel is correct, of course, and I agree with his "fantastic" description. I think what held the car back was the apparent (I was not there in person) muted enthusiasm among buyers throughout the weekend, nothing negative about the car itself. There was a similar car at RMS so this one may have suffered by comparison, but that is just speculation as I know nothing of the RMS car beyond what is in the catalog,

Lots of interesting results from the car week but easily the most interesting is the refusal of $19 million for the 250 Monza at Mecum. It was Dana Mecums own car and where does he expect to get any more? So was it chandelier bidding?

Below is a screen snip of what Bloomberg reported that RM Sotheby's stated after, and regarding, what happened in their Porsche? Type 64 auction:

Ha - I though the market for any $1,000,000+ vintage Ferrari was a small niche!

I guess there are niches within niches. Thanks.

It's an impressive car -- really beautiful.

I love the color combo and the condition of the interior. Great patina.

Overall Gooding had better cars than RM, though both had a number of great cars. Bonhams was a used car lot, just appalling. Auction attendance was light, with no auction crowded like in the past. Overall the entire two weeks seemed like far fewer people. Too many auctions and events at ever higher prices seems to be having an effect. Definitely more selective bidding (at least the bids by real people). Some good buys and a lot of great cars went home with the sellers.

While I’ve never spent that long up there, it seems last 2-3 years overall attendance at (too many ?) events, motels/hotels*, restaurants** etc has been steadily declining, this year being worst I’ve seen.

    * Plenty of vacancy signs on Fri/Sat.
** Empty dinner tables at popular places on Fri/Sat.

P.S. Dyke, even if just briefly, it was nice to finally meet you in person and I apologize for imposing your assistant with that fuel hose request for our ride (‘59 Imperial Crown convertible), but wish to extend my deepest gratitude for his willingness to accommodate. I owe you both.

Timo: They mentioned the fuel hose, but I did not realize it was you! Hopefully we were able to help. You caught me at a very busy time with cars just going out for a session. I apologize for not having more time to visit. I was hoping you would return later, but everything is so busy and confusing at a race track. I hope you caught some of our sessions as the cars really performed well. For us, it was a great two weekends at the track.

Dyke: Yes, I watched the Cobra session after we met and it looked/sounded like a good run (fourth place, IIRC?), but based on what I’ve seen at the track, I suspected you being busy and I didn’t want to be a nuisance.

Besides my friend/chauffeur wanted to leave early to go check some cars at auctions, but as (bad) luck would have it, we got stuck at the upper (#11?) parking lot with that fuel delivery problem and by the time I got a ride down to pits and saw your setup, you were gone, but the new hose they gave me helped us get back to my friends house where we promptly switched to using his ‘59 DeSoto for the rest of my visit up there.

Until the next time, but in the meanwhile, thanks again.

Seller paid $710K hammer for this actual car back in 2014 at RM Amelia Island. Aside from a repaint, it is a remarkable time-capsule example.
