Appreciate the info. It appears the Regents slide will keep the road closed all year so perhaps we can go most of the way up Hwy 1 then double back slightly to get over to 101 then back Westward into Pebble Beach. Hwy 1 north to Paso Robles then 46 east to 101 north then go thru town of Spreckles to Hwy 1 to Monterey/carmel/Pacific Grove.
I’m open to what makes the most sense but also allows an enjoyable scenic and fun drive for the group. I just want to get out and use the car versus ship it up…
The various west to east connectors between PCH and 101 are some of the best driving roads in California. They typically have almost no traffic.
After talking with Craig today it looks like I'm in. I will probably ship the car to him and fly in to avoid the desert part in August.
I regularly drive my 93 y.o. Roadster (w/70+ y.o. mechanicals & technology) through the Southwest deserts in the summer* time, not mention numerous Monterey Car Week trips, so I can’t see why much more modern, restored(?) car/technology couldn’t manage same. Our honeymoon trip to Yellowstone (& back) in the car +/-8 years ago put us through Southern Nevada in mid-July when temperature in Las Vegas was 108 at 8:30am. It was miserable enough for us to put the up and while my engine had 50K+ miles since last overhaul and the radiator was rebuilt over 10 years before the trip, the car/engine ran nice & cool.
I think the car would survive better than me. I ain't the same person I was when I did this 25 years ago.
I (kind of) hear you. I’ve been doing this kind of **** for over 40 years and while I’ve slowed down a little in the past few years, have no plans to “take it easy”, let alone stop. In fact, I wish I had time & money to do more now than ever. It’s kind of like my long time friend and mentor told me decades ago “Pu**ie* will never be heroes !” (Not that I try to be one for anybody).
Open to suggestions but I was focused on finding a good half way point for the drive between Redondo Beach and Monterey to break up the time/miles over two days.
You could leave before 5am and make it to 101 before too much heat - have 2 liters of iced water and driving shirt to destroy but you could make it Please make a video
I've secured tickets for most of the events for Monterey car week and am looking forward to the Concorso Italiano, however I have my eyes set on the Quail. Last year I tried to get tickets months in advance and found no luck due to the ticket availability being lucrative. If you have a ticket you are looking to sell, I would be highly interested. Can you go the night before? I helped a friend display at setup the night before we moved his Ferrari and we had free aaccess to everything.
I’m sure you will be able to find a ticket either from here or eBay after they are mailed out. I recall seeing several posts offering extra tickets last year. They did get snapped up quickly though. The biggest challenge to getting tickets I have to imagine for most people is that they are only offered for sale in January. Best of luck to you!
And if you can/dare to wait until a few days, maybe a week so before the Quail, there usually is a bunch of tickets coming available, often at severely discounted prices when all who bought them for speculation start to panic. While I’ve only bought a couple of tickets once, over a decade ago, I wouldn’t have any interest in paying even if the price was $500 or less a pop and although in last few years I’ve been offered one or two free tickets to almost every event, it still hasn’t motivated me to attend any more.
