Hey guys, I Live in Illinois, but Ive been admiring the sights every year of the different Concours shows in the Monterey area. I am hopefully going to be able to make it out this year. Anyways, Is there anything specifically i should about these events? Is there alot of crazy cars that come out? How are the people there? At an event of this magnitude, is it really a great event in real life or does it just look good on TV? Help me out please guys!
    Thanks,
    Jacob

It all depends on which events you plan to attend.

I've only had the opportunity to go to Concorso Italiano as far as Lawn shows go. I've been to the last 4 years '07-'10 as well as '04. I hope to go to other stuff, but since I'm always stuck at the racetrack keeping fans out of areas they aren't supposed to be, it's hard to get away for the other cool stuff.

Just driving around though you will see some of the sickest cars on the planet.

There are many club/group/specialist drives during the week as well as shows. Highlights are getting an invite to the Jet Centre, attending Concorso and/or Quail Valley Lodge shows, the Monterey Historics (or whatever they call themselves now) over 3 days, the informal show at Carmel by the Sea, and of course the big daddy, the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Lots of auctions, but to get into many, you'll need some sort of prior clearance since they often provide free booze.

Do you prefer hands-on wrenching? Visit Laguna Fri/Sat/Sun. Like an (anything) Italian owner car show atmosphere? Concorso is your gig. Want a slightly more exclusive version of Concorso with more rare (and old) Ferraris? Attend Quail. Want to see cars featured in coffee table books? Go to Pebble. Monterey during that week provides nearly 24/7 car activities of the most pure and rarified. Finding a Toyota Camry would be a challenge!

No matter what you do or where you go, you're car brain is simply going to explode! :D

It's really fun. There are great cars all over the place, even on the streets. The major auctions require a hefty entrance fee but you can see a lot of the cars outside before they are brought to the auction block. You can attend the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca Raceway, previously known as the Monterey Historics.

The event lasts a few weeks with the weekend Thursday- Friday having the majority of events. There are more events than the average guy can keep up with and yes it is as good as it looks. The closer you stay to Monterey and Carmel the easier it is to get around- book a room early and enjoy the cars.

    Must see
Pebble beach tour - Thursday, CI-Friday, Laguna Seca Historic races-Sat,
    Pebble Beach- Sunday

Rooms at Munras Ave Skid Row are coming in at under $300 a night, which is actually a good deal compared to the usual "$400 a night with a 4-night minimum" price collusion. A friend called me up last week and said he got rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn for $200 a night. Still some deals to be had. No foolin' - these are good prices.

There are so many events. One fun one is Concours on the Avenue in Carmel, this year on Tuesday, August 16. They have multi-marques, Porsche and Ferrari sections. Nothing older than 1940 and nothing newer than 1989. On the street. Cool.

Ditto. A great event- we have been to it every year, twice entering a car. Really no competing/conflicting events on Tuesday, and it's FREE.

s most of you know CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA CONCOURS ON THE AVENUE has been rescheduled for 2011. We have decided to step back, find solid footing for the future and present a full scale event in August of 2011."

"However, there is good news! A Limited Edition event for 2010 including thirty five vehicles on Ocean Avenue in the heart of Carmel will present this years motorized fun. Tuesday, August 10 is the date and 12:00 noon until 1:30 pm is the time. The very popular television series Chasing Classic Cars with Wayne Carini will be filming an episode to air this fall on Discovery HD Theater and the Discovery Channel, so join in on the fun."

"We hope you will visit Carmel, view the automobiles, motorcycles and trucks plus have some lunch and enjoy the village! Thank you for your continued interest and support!"

All the best, Doug and Genie Freedman, The Founders
