not too much in the way of clubbing.

The Mucky Duck will have some live music, but its a english pub, so not dance techno stuff.

its WAY off from the clubbing/dance scene, but if you can make your way down to the Pebble Beach Lodge, do it. Go during the daylight, go into the lobby, have a drink, sit back and enjoy the stunning view of the 18th green out the huge windows.

Most of the action is on Alvarado street in Monterey on Thursday-Saturday. The big hot spot lately is my friend's restaurant down town called lollapalooza - as far as a hang out and be seen place. It's on Alvarado on the left side as you drive down. Sort of across from the mucky duck that is also popular.

A lot depends on what you are looking for. There are a couple of clubs right there on Alvarado street also.. just follow the large crowds of idiots drunk people and you'll find them :) There is a club upstairs from Taco bell (go down Alvarado). And there is also one on Franklin street there (go down Alvarado and turn right at the stop light). It seems to be popular lately. Don't know the name.

If you are looking to have a nice dinner, drive down the coast to highlands inn and eat at Pacific Edge (reservations are suggested). Also, Rio Grill down by the mouth of the valley is nice. So is Stokes Abode near the Post Office in Monterey. For breakfast, the little Red House Cafe in Pacific Grove on the weekends is the best. For mexican food, Peppers in Pacific Grove is great.

If you like seafood, Masaro and Santos on the Coast Guard Pier is very nice. Roy's over in Pebble Beach (at Spanish Bay) is also a top notch place for dinner. Montrio in Monterey is very good too. My servers used to be in the building next door to Montrio and I think I must have eaten there every day for a year when the internet was first getting going :)

Lodge is okay, but kinda stuffy.. plus since they screwed up the parking, it's a hassle to get into and out of. It's also pretty removed from the rest of the world. There are a number of nice places for dinner on Ocean Ave in Carmel (and just off Ocean) as well.

For night life, it's basically Alvarado street and not much else when it comes to Monterey. There isn't much of a night life here... I belive most people drive up to San Jose or SF if they really feel the need to dance with good music.

There are also a couple of clubs on Cannery Row that you might try. There is one upstairs just off the bike path. It's across from the big Parking Garage structure.

There is a great new steakhouse here in Pacific Grove called The Cellar Door that's definitely worth a look. For nightlife after dinner... Well... PG tends to roll up the sidewalks pretty early.

For a quiet after dinner few, try Latitudes at Lovers' Point. Friday and Saturday nights they have a low key jazz duo in the lounge.

Cannery Row is kinda quiet these days - combination of winter and costruction. The Blue Fin - the club off the bike path - is closed, but Sly McFly's continues to pack them in. Sly's is still the place in Monterey for live blues and R & B, but get there early if you want a seat. Otherwise, you will be forced to squeeze in like one of the row's famous sardines.

For downtown nightlife, again, Doc Rickett's on Franklin Street, and Club Octane on Alvarado for the dance crowd, and Lallapalooza's for the hang and be seen crowd.

    Have fun...
