Hey So. Cal members, I just have a few questions for all of you. I know Pebble Beach is a few months away, but I wan't to get a feel for what I should do. I'm from Rhode Island so flying out west is going to be pretty exciting! I'll be in LA/Hollywood from Weds until Friday. I'm staying in Monterrey Saturday until Monday. Besides the concours which is Sunday, what else do you guys recommend? Once again, I know this is WELL in advance but I'm just curious.

    Thanks

    Rob

    16 mile drive.

Hike down the government park, sorry I forgot the name, maybe it was Point Lobos? I have a rock souvenir that might have been plucked from there, you wont be sorry! It was the best thing we did up there! Right on the coast and a bunch of cool caves, waves and sea lions. If its warm, pack a lunch and bring a towel. Swimming optional!

    Monterrey bay aquarium.

Many events and auctions that week. Here are a few big ones...

    1. Concorso Italiano and Quail on Friday.
    2. Laguna Seca (Cobra reunion) Saturday.
    3. Drive down highway 1. Very scenic with great scenic hikes at the parks along the way.

You are staying Saturday and Sunday of Monterey weekend. Well, the week's about over by then (Concorso and Quail are on Friday), but you need to check out the vintage races on both days at Laguna Seca. Take in the evening segments of the two auctions in downtown Monterey. See Pebble on Sunday AM but bring cash for the ridiculously expensive tickets. Or, find someone who went to 2 hours early and use their ticket to enter later. I don't think they collect those things at the gate. Expect on sleeping very little on Saturday. Sunday you can make it up as things wind down towards late afternoon.

Some of the car clubs have Monday after parties but I have not heard of anything yet. I think the NorCal Ferrari Club chapter did something last year.

For those who like the historics what is really cool is if you get to drive laguna Seca race track. You can do that at the end of the month is a very quiet easy low stress atmosphere. If you really are scared of tracking your Ferrari the Alfa Club does a lunchtime drive around for like 40 bucks with a speed limit at freeway speeds in a lead follow format. It is totally safe and you can see the track up close and personal and drive the famous corkscrew. That will really get you pumpped for the historics.

"ridiculously expensive tickets" at Pebble beach? $150 each now not much more at that gate(175?). Goes to United Way so tax deductible(maybe depending on tax bracket). Concorso Italiano is $150 now, waaaaay less of an experience. Quail off the charts and impossible to get, auctions nearly Pebble prices. Pebble hasn't changed in years as far as price, this is the experience to have!! Get there very early(5:30) to get a good spot and see the cars come in. If you want a great auction experience go to goosing after( at Pebble up near Equestrian center, polo fields. Restaurants to experience are Roy's at Spanish Bay and Cantinetta Luca in Carmel, IMHO. Lots of other choices as well. The track is awesome as well, I've been doing Friday and Saturday with a sometime experience at Concorso Italiano early on Friday.

If you've never been to Concorso Italiano it's a nice unassuming event. Just rows of Italian cars and vendor booths. Casual, comfortable, and enjoyable. Not a must see every year (as it's very similar year to year) but definitely a must see at some point.

Good to know, it's dissapointing that I'm going to miss it this year but I think the Concours+Leguna Seca will make up for it. Do the majority of the cars that go to Concorso Italiano show up for the Concours as well?

Definitely Laguna Seca during the day then the auctions on Saturday night. You can actually see a fair amount of the RM auction without paying to go inside, although it's not horribly expensive if you choose to do so
    .
Last year I found the Mecum auction to be of most interest, but it is a daytime event.

Quick update, I was told by someone that a big cruise/rally leaves from LA and heads up to Monterrey Friday. Any info on this?
