I am moving from the east side close to the south side of central park in midtown.

Does anyone have any recommendations for monthly parking in midtown near central park?

I utilize my car as much as 4-5 times per week and need to have good access. I also would like to have the ability to park it myself (no elevator garages) as my car has no bumpers.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best place is at 62nd and West End Ave. A bunch of the NYC Fchat people use this garage and they treat us all well and watch out for our cars. For a park and lock space, it costs $355/month. Speak to Valdi (he's the current manager) and tell him David sent you. We each have our own spaces, keep our keys and come and go as we please. Its a 5-10 minute walk from anywhere on CPS.

However, there is a garage on Central Park South between 7th Ave and Columbus Circle. I have seen some very nice cars there, but I'm sure its expensive and I cannot vouch for their service... and the entrance has a steep grade so a very low car might have trouble entering it.

    Best of luck ;)

Noto's sounds like a good suggestion. Until recently I kept my Ferrari in a public garage on 50th street, in the Gershwin theater building (between 8th and B'way). Paid $300/month and kept my keys, they gave me a corner spot. Definitely not the kind of personalized service that Noto's garage sounds like they give, but it's a few quid cheaper and a bit more central... I know there were a couple of Porsches that parked there and I saw a 550 there once, but on the whole not many exotics...

    Good luck.

There is a garage in the Columbus circle with a nice assortment of cars from a 575M, F430 Spider, Murcielago, tons of Maybach's and Bentley's, and a couple Maserati's. I don't know the cost but if your interested I'll let you know where it is. Also there are some celebrity cars parked down there.

Is that the one under the Mandarin hotel... i.e. beneath those big Time Warner towers? That is probably one of the most expensive garages on earth... I parked there for 7 minutes once, it cost me $12 I think. Ridiculous.

I hope it is not that garage...I originally parked there on the main floor for a reasonable $300 / month when it first opened. Then they changed managers and the new guy was a total ******* and told me to pay close to $700 or my car will be moved by him...from then on I stopped giving my business to Central Parking as their corporate customer service was not helpful and did not care to reprimand a manager that was rude and obnoxious to their customer.

    David,

Thanks for the advice. Do you know if he is there on Saturdays? It is very difficult for me to get over to a garage during the weekdays as I work on Long Island. Do they have a website?

    Thanks again.

I do not know if my garage on 62nd and W End has a website, and I unfortunately do not know much about the garage on CPS, although I do think its affiliated with one of the large garage corporations in the city.

If you are around tomorrow morning, I will be going to my garage and I can introduce you to whomever is there (because I know the majority of the people who work there).

Please PM me if you want my contact info. I look forward to meeting you, and hope you can join us on runs this spring and summer ;)

Seinfeld is an avid automobile enthusiast and collector. However, unlike fellow comedian Jay Leno, he is far more focused—he is rumored to own one of the largest Porsche collections in the world. He rented out an entire hangar at the Santa Monica Airport in Santa Monica, California for an extended period of time during the 1990s for storage of some of the vehicles in the collection; after his return to New York he was involved in an extended dispute with several neighbors over the proposed building of a massive $1.4 million multistory garage to contain the cars.

A current tally puts Seinfeld at 47 Porsches. Reporter Paul Bannister reports that Seinfeld’s collection includes 911s from various years, 10 Boxsters each painted a different color, and the famous (some would say infamous) 1955 550 Spyder, the same model and pearl-grey color that actor James Dean was driving when he crashed and died in September 1955 near Cholame, California[citation needed]. The center piece is a $700,000 Porsche 959, one of only 200 ever built. To Seinfeld's despair, he is not allowed to drive it as U.S. emission and crash tests were never performed because Porsche refused to donate four 959s for destruction tests (rendering the car "not street legal"). Seinfeld imported the car "for exhibition purposes", which stipulates the car may never set rubber on American roads (Paul Bannister, The Comedians, p.74-75).

In several episodes of his sitcom he uses a Saab 900 (NG) convertible, but a Porsche themed painting (depicting a 904 GTS race car competing in the 1964 Targa Florio race in Italy) is visible on a wall in his apartment. In addition, an issue of Excellence magazine, a Porsche-centered publication, is featured prominently on an outdoor magazine rack in one episode, and on at least one occasion Seinfeld is seen reading an issue of Road and Track magazine from circa 1990 with a cover article on the Porsche 964. He also wrote an article for February 2004 issue of Automobile Magazine, reviewing the Porsche Carrera GT. For the story Seinfeld was awarded Road Test - Silver at the 2004 International Automotive Media Awards (no Gold award was given).

There are definitely some crazy cars down there...when I parked there a guy had his new SLR that he never drove parked there...He would come into the garage and just start it to keep the battery charged...I tried to no avail to get him to take it out more often. He ended up sending it home overseas about a month later.

    Any other suggestions for parking?
